Chapter 189 — The Image Selena Gerfen Left Behind

Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2

All sorts of conjectures surfaced in Gao Yang's mind, and amid them he saw one religious leader step forth from the crowd.

The figure wore a solemn black robe and a wooden mask painted with patterns of constellations and eyes. After a moment's hesitation, Gao Yang recognized him: Megar III, pontiff of the Dream God Church seven hundred years ago.

This pontiff stepped before the altar, then removed his mask and robe and stood there clad only in a short tunic and simple garments, and began to receive the blessings of the other sect leaders. What happened next left Gao Yang perplexed:

After the other sect leaders had blessed Megar III, several great mages actually stepped forward—casters who were not priests—and began casting spell after spell upon Megar.

They were all manner of protections; nearly every protective spell Gao Yang could name was cast upon this dream pontiff, and from the robes those great mages wore and from their bearing, one could tell that every one of them was extraordinarily powerful—so the potency of those protective spells could well be imagined.

After receiving the augmentation of the protective spells, Megar III, with the aid of others, began to don a peculiar "garment." That garment had none of the splendor and elegance of a priest's robe; it could only be described as ugly. It had a heavy, multi-layered structure, with joined gloves and shoes, everything covered tight and sealed, and on every layer of fabric could be seen incomparably intricate magical patterns.

Only when Megar III put on an odd-looking, crystal-crafted spherical-shell helmet did Gao Yang finally start awake to what it was:

It was a magic version of a spacesuit!

Selena's voice came at the same time from off-screen: "...The pontiff has received the blessing and the magical augmentation, and has also donned the protective vestment specially made according to the prompt of 'divine revelation,' capable of withstanding the powers of the divine realm. Frankly, that garment is very ugly, but it has all the functions it ought to have. I hope all goes well..."

Accompanied by Selena's soft prayer, Gao Yang saw Megar III walk onto the altar, and at the same time two more figures stepped out and stood at two special nodes on the outer edge of the altar.

They were the pontiff of the Storm God and the druidic high hierarch of the Holy Spirit Sect.

They seemed to exchange something with the dream god's pontiff standing at the center of the altar, but the image recording carried no sound of them; owing to the angle of the picture, Gao Yang could not read anything from their lips either. He could only judge from the form of the altar that those two sect leaders would take part in the ceremony to follow, and might well bear a certain risk.

Then the ceremony began.

The runes on the altar lit up one after another, and the vast energy released by the divine-art array made the surrounding air twist faintly. Megar III, his whole body shrouded in the "spacesuit," raised his hand and waved vigorously at the pontiffs, hierarchs, and holy thrones around the altar.

Then a shaft of white light descended from the sky, and in that instant the figure of Maelgor III vanished within it.

The image likewise plunged into darkness at the same moment; the record ended there.

Some powerful energy seemed to have cut Selina Guelfen's "recording" short ahead of time.
