Chapter 4740 — Ill Intent

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

"Huh?" Kang Jingming was stunned for a moment, then suddenly caught on. His eyes lit up with excitement. "Right—Young Master Xu is brilliant as always. This is the island lord's palace, and I'm the trial winner everyone's already acknowledged. If anything happened to me here, the Western Island would never be able to clear their name. No matter how bold they are, they wouldn't dare take that kind of risk!"

"The most dangerous place is the safest place—that's exactly the principle at work here. Once the trial results are announced, no one will be able to touch either of us," Xu Lingchong said with a smug sneer.

"Yes, yes, exactly!" Kang Jingming instantly puffed himself up again. He looked swaggeringly around at the Western Island disciples, and far from being afraid, he even began appraising their looks with great relish—they were all potential targets for him, after all.

In the trial grounds, in a concealed corner not far from the teleportation array, Huo Yudie was still keeping watch at Wei Zhao's side. Though Wei Zhao still showed not the slightest sign of waking, Huo Yudie was no longer as anxious and uncertain as she had been at the start; her expression was rather calm and assured.

There was no other reason: she had watched every little change in Wei Zhao over these past days. Apart from not waking, everything else was improving rapidly.

Not only had his breathing and pulse grown stronger and more forceful, but—more wondrous still—the shocking wound on Wei Zhao's abdomen, though it had received no effective treatment whatsoever, had over these days been healing at a speed visible to the naked eye. Now it was on the verge of closing entirely.

Had she not seen it with her own eyes, Huo Yudie would never have believed such a wondrous thing could exist in this world—that after suffering such a grievous, fatal wound, a person would not only fail to die, but could recover entirely through his own life force, without any divine physician to save him. Such a thing was beyond common sense; it was nothing short of a miracle!

Wei Zhao truly was no ordinary man! Huo Yudie confirmed this understanding once again. Seeing that his breathing was steady and normal, she smiled faintly, then rose and walked out of the concealed corner. Once outside in the open, under the sun, she took out her phone and began to charge it.

Except on rainy days, this was something she had done every day for half a month. Han Jingyi had specifically warned her that it had to be charged regularly—after all, it was the only means of contact between them, and if it died, the trouble would be enormous. Fortunately, rain was rare year-round in this trial ground. Though a hazy layer of bloody mist always hung overhead, as long as she reached open ground, charging was no problem.

As usual, Huo Yudie came to the open space outside the teleportation array. Canyons flanked it on both sides, and only at noon could this spot catch the sun. But before she could set the phone down, she suddenly sensed what seemed like a figure flickering at the edge of her vision.

"Who's there?!" Huo Yudie started in alarm. Yet after searching all around, she found no one at all—only a strong wind blowing sand, howling past.

So it was only a false alarm! Huo Yudie let out a breath. With Wei Zhao unconscious and everything resting on her alone, she honestly did feel somewhat uneasy. She might be a peak Nascent Soul cultivator, but in the end she was still a frail young woman—and her strength was hardly invincible in this place. There was still Scarface and his gang to reckon with!

As on previous days, she finished charging without mishap, put the phone away, and returned to their shelter to look after Wei Zhao. But before she could sit down, a disordered clatter of footsteps suddenly came from outside, and then a burly man with an overbearing presence appeared in view, leading a pack of savage-looking subordinates. It was none other than Scarface and his crew!
