Chapter 204 — So Sneaky
The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2
"Heh heh, Yao-yao, just wait for tonight — you'll be doing the confession, ha ha..." Shen Yushu snickered twice from her hiding place in the bathroom. Even before she had proposed the game of hide-and-seek, she had already scouted out a perfect hiding spot, one she was sure Gu Mengyao could never find, not in a hundred years.
That was why Shen Yushu had been so confident of victory, and why she had proposed such a thrilling little wager — because she believed she was certain to win, and Gu Mengyao certain to lose.
After a while, Shen Yushu's phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen, saw it was Gu Mengyao's number, and casually hung up. Then she stepped out of the bathroom.
Once out, Shen Yushu did not rush off to hunt for Gu Mengyao's hiding place. Instead she stood in the living room and began to observe. This was Gu Mengyao's home, true, but from the age of fourteen Shen Yushu had often stayed here — she knew this villa as well as the back of her own hand.
Gu Mengyao's hiding spot certainly would not be anywhere ordinary, nor any random corner of a room. Whatever corners Shen Yushu knew, Gu Mengyao knew too — she would naturally expect Shen Yushu to search them one by one.
So, reasoning backward from how Gu Mengyao thought, Shen Yushu felt no urge to go poking through those corners. Gu Mengyao would never hide there just to be found.
Her gaze fell on Wei Zhao's bedroom door, and a sly little smile flickered at the corner of Shen Yushu's mouth.
Earlier, during the concert, Wei Zhao's door had been left ajar. It was not that Shen Yushu had meant to peek at his room — but when the talk had turned to "confessing" to Arrow Brand Bro, a flicker of guilt had made her glance instinctively toward that door. That was how she had come to remember exactly how it looked.
But now, Wei Zhao's door was shut tight. If Gu Mengyao was not hiding in there, where else could she possibly be?
Shen Yushu tiptoed to the door, then flung it open all at once. "Yao-yao, come on out! I can see you!" she called, grinning.
Having said that, she stood there like someone holding a winning hand, waiting for Gu Mengyao to emerge. But a long while passed and no one came out. Shen Yushu's confidence began to fray...
"Yao-yao, stop hiding, come out already!" she said, and stepped into the room.
Wei Zhao's room was no stranger to her. She had come in once before — back then he had been changing his pants... and she had gone scarlet with embarrassment.
Her eyes swept the room quickly. Her own laptop sat on the desk; beneath the desk — no one. Under the bed — no way anyone could fit.
The wardrobe — basically empty, holding only two or three new shirts Wei Zhao had bought. The en-suite bathroom — not a soul inside, though two pairs of Wei Zhao's underwear hung on the drying rack.
"Huh?" Shen Yushu was puzzled. Where was Yao-yao? Gone? Could she turn invisible?
Unwilling to give up, Shen Yushu searched the room several more times, but still there was no sign of Gu Mengyao. Her spirits sagged... Could it be that Gu Mengyao really was not in the room?
Just as Shen Yushu stood there baffled, her phone buzzed again. She pulled it out — Gu Mengyao's number. She answered, rather helplessly: "Yao-yao, where are you?"
"Xiao-shu, ten minutes are up — and you didn't find me!" Gu Mengyao's voice came through the receiver, tinged with triumph.
"Yao-yao, where on earth are you hiding?" As she spoke, Shen Yushu glanced left and right, trying to trace the voice to its source, but after listening for a moment she could not place it. Gu Mengyao could not be speaking from inside this room.
"I'm in our bedroom, of course. I've been lying on the bed for a while, waiting for you to come find me!" Gu Mengyao said, a little languidly — clearly trying to needle her on purpose.
"Uh..." Shen Yushu nearly dropped the phone. "You're in the bedroom? But I saw Arrow Brand Bro's door was shut?"
