"Oh... that. I just pulled it closed on my way past," Gu Mengyao said, as though it were the most casual thing in the world. "I was worried there might be valuables in his room, and we might knock something over while playing. Then we'd never hear the end of it!"
"Uh..." Shen Yushu had not expected that to be the reason Wei Zhao's door was shut. That was just too devious — wasn't it plainly setting her up to be fooled? "Yao-yao, how can you be so sneaky!"
"Sneaky? I don't see it that way," Gu Mengyao said with a laugh. "Xiao-shu, I'm coming downstairs now. It's your turn — you'd better hide well, or you'll be the one doing the confessing."
Shen Yushu hung up in frustration and waited in the living room for Gu Mengyao to come downstairs. A short while later, Gu Mengyao did come down, and seeing that she had indeed been upstairs all along, Shen Yushu was so annoyed her teeth itched.
"Yao Yao, it's my turn now. Go wait in the bathroom," Shen Yushu said.
"Sure. Call me once you're hidden," Gu Mengyao replied carelessly. She had already won one round, so even if she lost the next, the worst she could do was tie. She was not nervous in the least.
Gu Mengyao went into the bathroom and shut the door, and Shen Yushu went off to hide.
Shen Yushu had meant to pick just any old spot this time, but having lost the previous round, she could not afford to take chances. She had to hide in that ultimate, unbeatable place!
Only after she saw Gu Mengyao close the bathroom door did Shen Yushu tiptoe out the villa's front door and into the courtyard. At the back of the villa stood a *** storage shed, enclosed all around by a fence and kept locked as a rule.
Since Gu Mengyao lived alone and had next to no clutter, the shed had gone unused ever since she bought the villa. Only once, long ago, when Shen Yushu and Gu Mengyao were playing badminton together in the courtyard, had the shuttlecock landed inside the shed's fence. Shen Yushu had squeezed through the gap in the fence and retrieved it.
It was a hiding place blessed by nature! Shen Yushu was sure that once she slipped inside, Gu Mengyao would never think to look there. The iron gate in the fence was padlocked, and Gu Mengyao probably could not even remember where the key was, so why would she come looking for anyone here?
Shen Yushu giggled, then dashed quickly to the fence, swung one leg over, and squeezed her body through the gap between the iron bars...
