Chapter 1137 — Facing the Tide of Thought

Blade of Dawn · Page 1 of 4

Amorn stared fixedly at Milmina before him, but she quickly shook off the awkwardness and looked back at him with astonishing composure: "What else? While you were standing there dazed, I was busy checking those devices. Without my help, how long do you think it would have taken you to connect to the network?"

"You're changing the subject!" Amorn was hardly going to be thrown off by a diversion of that caliber. He kept his eyes fixed on Milmina. "I'm asking you what 'Highway Stag' is supposed to mean — I understand that entering the network requires a new name, but you should have at least asked my opinion on this one..."

"Trust me, Amorn, this name isn't strange at all in the neural network. In a place where anyone can give themselves a new name, only a title with this kind of individuality counts as keeping up with the times — didn't you always want to keep up with this new era the mortals have begun?" Faced with Amorn's displeasure, Milmina only laughed. "And if you think about it carefully, this title actually suits your situation quite well..."

Seeing that Amorn's expression had not relaxed in the slightest, she had no choice but to shake her head: "Anyway, it can't be changed."

"It can't be changed?" Amorn was taken aback, and his brow quickly furrowed. "Wait — then what name did you give yourself?"

Milmina folded her arms across her chest with considerable pride, smiling with a reserved air: "Tower Witch."

"...Find a way to change my name. Right now!"

Milmina spread her hands. "I already told you, it can't be changed... If it really comes down to it, you can go have a word with Gao Yang about it later — if you think such a trivial matter is worth making such a fuss over."

Amorn felt the corner of his mouth twitch, but for a moment he truly did not know what to say. He was, after all, not a god skilled in words — especially after three thousand years sealed away alone. Faced with an opponent as quick-witted as Milmina, one whose humanity had already awakened, he simply could not gain the slightest advantage in verbal sparring.

And in that brief second of his silence, Milmina had already lightly stepped forward two paces. Smiling, she patted Amorn gently on the shoulder: "We've already wasted far too long in this place — set aside these trivial little matters. Old... Amorn, are you ready to go and see that incredible world the mortals have built?"

Amorn nodded instinctively. The next second, he suddenly felt the light and shadow before his eyes begin to warp and scatter, a flood of complex information surging in through the mental connection, and a set of artificial senses completing their switch in the blink of an eye. He had just opened his mouth to say something when he felt a darkness before his eyes — and then, in the next instant, his vision grew bright.

Warm light fell upon his face, a gentle breeze blew in from afar, and living sounds and shifting light and shadow filled his surroundings. He raised his head and saw a lush green oak standing before him. Around the oak lay an open plaza, ringed by graceful colonnades, with carefully pruned shrubs dotted among the pillars. Farther off, he saw tall and beautiful buildings arrayed row upon row, clean and broad roads stretching out across his field of view, and pedestrians in twos and threes walking or pausing among these roads and structures, each as leisurely and at ease as though they truly lived there.

And somewhat farther still, he saw immense pillars of light rising into the sky, connecting the high heavens to buildings that resembled pyramids. Above the sky, faint dark shapes drifted to and fro — they seemed to be administrators on patrol.

The wind blew in, carrying the fresh scent of flowers and grass. Amorn instinctively drew a deep breath, then blinked — genuine sensation was returning to every limb. He took a step forward, and that step landed firmly on the smooth, level ground.
