Yuri and Semler were the first to rise, then Wendy and the other bishops and the Daystar Cultists present, and only at last did the remaining priests react to who it was that had appeared before them; the soft rustle of benches and garments shifting spread through the whole assembly hall, and every Sleeper came to their feet.
It was a sight that could truly be called magnificent.
Gao Yang looked at these people before him, at these who had only just been transferred over from Typhon, who not long ago had still been members of the dark cults; though all of this had been brought about by his own hand, at this moment he still felt a certain unreality—the entire Longnight Cult, the accumulated foundation of seven hundred years, more than half its fruits now belonged to Cecil.
These were all technical personnel.
Gao Yang let out a soft breath and said mildly, "Sit down, all of you."
Of the three great dark cults: the Sons of the Storm were being eroded and remade by the power of the Deepsea Harmonizer, their current condition unknown; the Congregation of the Final End had at last become worthy of its name—apart from a band of remnants who had fled into the wastelands to hide, the portion that remained in the human nations had almost entirely died out, leaving a single plant on the Sorin Plains as the sole survivor; and as for the Sleepers, their order had crumbled, and the technical personnel who survived had been divided between the two great human empires.
This darkness and chaos that had stretched across seven hundred years—though it could not yet be called settled today, in Gao Yang's view the broad current of events was at least decided.
"Yuri, Semler, and... Wendy," Gao Yang's gaze swept one by one over the faces of the several he knew better—those of the Numinous Axis Cult—and as his eyes turned toward the empty space beside them, two more figures abruptly surfaced there. "Ah, and Magnum, Selina... glad to see you've arrived safely."
"Your Majesty," Yuri said, taking a small step forward; on the word "Majesty" he visibly stumbled, plainly still not quite used to the address. Then he turned slightly and gestured toward the crowd in the hall. "Everyone who has successfully crossed the border is here now—in numbers, less than a tenth of the whole order, but essentially all of the mid- and upper-level members who hold technical knowledge, including nearly all of the Numinous Axis Cult, a third of the bishops, and a portion of the elite priests of outstanding ability, all awaiting your orders."
Which meant there were in fact still a considerable number of mid-level technical personnel left behind in Typhon...
Gao Yang sighed inwardly, though he let nothing show; he only nodded and said unhurriedly, "There's no hurry. You can rest here for a few days first, get familiar with the surroundings, and get familiar with the laws and rules you must abide by here. There will be dedicated personnel and departments responsible for you, and food, lodging, and all such matters will be arranged.
"In addition, for some time to come, these priests of the Holy Light will live alongside you; they will guide you as you gradually adapt to life here."
At his last sentence the Sleepers present seemed to stir slightly, but in the end no one stepped forward to voice an opinion, and Gao Yang was rather satisfied with that.
"Then the rest of you may go and rest. The Daystar Cultists stay—I still have matters to assign and arrange."
At once the White Knights and battle sisters present came forward, guiding the other priests out of the assembly hall toward the housing areas arranged in advance, while Yuri, Semler, and the other Daystar Cultists remained as instructed—including Magnum and Selina, who currently appeared before Gao Yang as illusory projections.
