Chapter 4758 — Sooner or Later You Get Used to It
"Then what are you laughing at, Feifei? A problem with the cauldron is still a problem, and a harder one to fix at that! How can you be in the mood to laugh at a time like this? Sister Huo is about to be forced to marry that hypocrite Ren Zhongyuan!" Shangguan Lan'er said, then flung herself forward and pinched her.
Ning Xuefei dodged nimbly, giggling all the while. "Of course it's funny! It's actually a very simple problem, one that can be solved in no time, yet every one of you is walking around with a face like a wet week. Isn't that hilarious? What do you think, Jingjing?"
"I suppose so. It is a bit funny." The corners of Han Jingyi's mouth curved in an indescribable arc as she covered her laugh with her hand.
"What do you mean by that? What exactly is wrong with the Divine Farmer's Cauldron, and what do you mean it can be solved in no time?" Wei Zhao was utterly baffled. He quickly caught Han Jingyi by the hand and pressed her for an answer.
"Brother Wei Zhao, don't be anxious. Strictly speaking, this can't really be called a problem with the Divine Farmer's Cauldron. The hardware is fine—it's just that the software inside needs an upgrade." Han Jingyi gave a mischievous little laugh.
"Software?" Wei Zhao stared blankly. He did not quite follow. What hardware, what software? Where had that come from?
"That's right. The main reason the Divine Farmer's Cauldron can refine pills automatically is that Jingjing installed an intelligent analysis formula in the computer, remember?" Han Jingyi smiled, and when Wei Zhao nodded, she went on: "The trouble is that when Jingjing first set up that formula, she had never come into contact with anything on such a high level. The vast majority of it was derived purely from data projection. So the fact that the formula held up all the way to sixth-grade pills already far exceeded Jingjing's own expectations. As for seventh-grade pills, Jingjing never even dreamed of reaching such a height in the first place."
"Then what do we do?" Though some parts still escaped him, Wei Zhao had more or less understood. To reach the sixth grade by pure data projection alone—this girl Han Jingyi really was a genius without peer in the world.
"Simple. Just have Jingjing upgrade it for you, and the problem's solved," Ning Xuefei said with a smile.
"Of course! How could I be so dense!" Looking at Han Jingyi, who was covering her mouth and laughing, Wei Zhao slapped his forehead in sudden realization. Since the inventor herself was right here beside him, upgrading the software was no trouble at all for her!
Without further ado—and since there were no outsiders around—Wei Zhao promptly brought out the Divine Farmer's Cauldron. It gave the bewildered Huo Yudie such a fright that her attention was instantly diverted. Eyes wide, she pointed back and forth between Wei Zhao and the cauldron. "Where on earth did you conjure that from?!"
She had wanted to ask during the trial earlier. If she could accept Wei Zhao producing pastries and clothes out of thin air at the start, then what came after—collecting the Thunder Mystic Vine, and especially making that mountain of treasures belonging to Scarface vanish into nothing right before they left—was simply impossible to explain.
But either the situation had been too urgent or she had been too immersed in pleasant surprise to tear herself away, so she had never gotten around to asking. Now, though, Wei Zhao had suddenly produced a pill-refining furnace out of thin air. If she did not get to the bottom of this, Huo Yudie would start to think she had somehow begun hallucinating...
"Heehee, Brother Wei Zhao, you explain it to her properly. I'll go upgrade it for you now." Smiling merrily, Han Jingyi took the Divine Farmer's Cauldron and headed off to the research room with Ning Xuefei and Shangguan Lan'er.
Left alone with Huo Yudie staring blankly at him, Wei Zhao spread his hands with a wry smile. He felt there was no need to hide anything from her. "The truth is, I carry a very unique jade pendant, and it contains a mysterious, independent space. With a single thought I can store things from the outside world inside it, and likewise take them out again. Now you understand, don't you?"
"There's such a thing?" Huo Yudie clapped a hand over her mouth in astonishment. She had assumed it must be some clever illusion, or perhaps that Wei Zhao carried an exquisite formation array on his person. Such things were rarely seen, but legends of the kind had always circulated among cultivators. Never had she imagined the answer would be so simple—Wei Zhao had a wondrous jade pendant!
"Mm. Strange things tend to happen around me. You'll get used to it soon enough. But remember to keep this secret—only my own people know of it." Wei Zhao chuckled.
Get used to it soon enough? Hearing Wei Zhao's airy, casual tone, Huo Yudie could only roll her eyes in speechless exasperation, not knowing what to say.
She was no novice, after all. She was a peak Nascent Soul expert, no less, and one who had spent time at a place like the Eastern Continent Academy—her breadth of experience far surpassed that of ordinary cultivators. Even so, she had never heard of anything as bizarre as a jade pendant space. Yet that phrase of Wei Zhao's—"my own people"—made her heart skip a beat...
Wei Zhao smiled at Huo Yudie's expression but said nothing more.
Talking as they went, the two of them arrived at Ning Xuefei's research room. Han Jingyi was wholly absorbed in updating the intelligent analysis formula, her ten fingers flying back and forth across the keyboard. Even with Wei Zhao's eyesight, he could not precisely follow them—he could see only a blur of fingers, to say nothing of anyone else.
At this exaggerated spectacle Huo Yudie could not help covering her mouth again, her eyes brimming with admiration as she looked at Han Jingyi. This was a classic case of not understanding a thing yet being awed all the same. From their earlier dealings she had taken Han Jingyi for a cute, innocent girl whose own strength was nothing special. But now, seeing this, the girl was plainly a genius—and sure enough, wonders filled every corner around Wei Zhao.
Wei Zhao and Huo Yudie waited quietly to one side. Updating the intelligent analysis formula was clearly beyond his help; it all depended on Han Jingyi herself. Ning Xuefei, who had picked up a little of this over the past two years of exposure, assisted her on the side, while Shangguan Lan'er and little Curly Bear were purely there for show.
About an hour passed in this fashion. Suddenly Han Jingyi stopped, wiped the fine beads of sweat from her forehead, and gave Wei Zhao a sweet smile. "Brother Wei Zhao, you can refine seventh-grade pills now."
"Done already?" Wei Zhao was overjoyed. The intelligent analysis formula could well be called the pinnacle of mortal-world technology; he had assumed Han Jingyi would need several hard days at least. To think it was finished in a single hour—the efficiency was truly astonishing.
"Heehee, Jingjing actually figured out how to upgrade this formula a long time ago. It was just that I never got to see Brother Wei Zhao. So now Jingjing only had to recite it from memory—very convenient." Han Jingyi smiled. (To be continued..)
