Chapter 4668 — You Have a Five-Element Constitution
Since he had no chance with the beauty, he had better hurry off and gather some rare treasures. Time was limited, and he could not afford to dawdle. If Wei Zhao beat him to the punch again this time, who knew how the higher-ups would punish him!
Having shaken off that annoying fly Kang Jingming, Huo Yudie was visibly relieved. But then Wei Zhao spoke up from ahead: "I'll be going now. Don't follow me unless you have business with me, or I'll assume you're up to no good."
"Wait a moment!" Huo Yudie cried out in a fluster.
"Is there something else?" This time Wei Zhao was genuinely impatient. He simply could not work out what this woman wanted, clinging to him the way she did. He shot her an exasperated look and said, "I don't have time for you right now. We'll meet again someday!"
With that, Wei Zhao strode straight ahead. His instincts told him that once this woman latched onto him, trouble was sure to follow. This West Island trial was too important to fail—he had no time to waste on her.
"You have a five-element constitution?" Huo Yudie suddenly asked.
"What?!" Wei Zhao stopped dead in his tracks, stunned. He instinctively glanced around, saw that no one was paying attention to them, and only then turned his gaze back to Huo Yudie, studying her anew. This woman from the East Continent could see through his spirit-root attributes at a single glance—could she be in possession of some powerful cheat in that regard?
Having one's spirit-root attributes known was no great matter in itself—at the very least it posed no real threat—but it was still astonishing. After all, it took highly specialized tools to test such a thing, and Wei Zhao had never heard of anyone with the innate gift of seeing it at a glance!
Shocked as he was, Wei Zhao kept his expression perfectly composed. He said with an unfathomable air, "Five-element constitution? What's that supposed to be?"
"All-attribute spirit roots. In common parlance, a five-element constitution." Huo Yudie fixed her eyes on Wei Zhao with absolute certainty, and from the look of her, she had already confirmed the matter beyond doubt.
"Common parlance?" Wei Zhao could not help curling his lip. He knew he could no longer hide it from her. Looking her up and down, he said, "I'd say only the mortal world calls it that. Nobody on Cloud Terrace Island speaks of a five-element constitution."
"Fine, then it's a mortal-world term." To his surprise, Huo Yudie nodded and admitted it outright.
"You know about the mortal world?" Wei Zhao was startled again. He had only meant it as a casual probe. He had never expected such an astonishing result. This girl from the East Continent was growing more peculiar by the minute!
She had attached herself to him for no apparent reason, named his five-element constitution in a single breath, and even knew it was a mortal-world term—so many suspicious points tangled together. Anyone would find it strange, and Wei Zhao could not help wondering whether some organization had deliberately sent this woman to get close to him.
"I do," Huo Yudie nodded again, as though it were the most natural thing in the world.
Wei Zhao's eyes remained full of suspicion. Plenty of people on Cloud Terrace Island knew of the mortal world, but few should know a mortal-world term like five-element constitution. He said in a low voice, "Then do you know what Ultraman is? What a sucker is? Who are you, really?"
"That I really don't know. I only heard about the mortal world from someone else—it was she who told me you have a five-element constitution, which is why I came to find you and confirm it." Huo Yudie's words were startling.
"She? Who is she?" Wei Zhao felt a chill of alarm. To his mind, this was even more astonishing than the other party possessing a cheat for seeing through spirit-root attributes. From the sound of this girl, she even knew someone acquainted with him?
"I don't know her exact identity either—just a woman who was transported from the mortal world to the East Continent." Huo Yudie blinked. Whether that was the whole truth or a partial one, there was no telling.
"What?!" At these words, even the usually imperturbable Wei Zhao could not keep his expression from changing. Only a handful of people had ever been transported from the mortal world to Cloud Terrace Island. There were enemies and unrelated outsiders among them, to be sure, but since the person was a woman, the range of possibilities was already very small. It might even be one of the women close to him!
Of all the destinations from the mortal world to Cloud Terrace Island, the best for a woman was the West Island, followed by the North Island and the Central Island. If one drew the shortest straw of all, it would be the chaotic South Continent or the mighty, mysterious East Continent.
Wang Xinyan had only enjoyed smooth sailing because she was lucky enough to encounter the Divine Nun of the East Sea. Otherwise, thrown into that pack-of-wolves academy, who knew how wretched her lot would have been.
At this thought, Wei Zhao could not help tensing up, because the mortal-world woman the other party spoke of might well be one of his own confidantes. Otherwise, she would hardly have mentioned him, still less his five-element constitution.
Wei Zhao drew a deep breath, steadied himself a little, and then asked, "What's her name?"
"That I don't know either. I only know that after she was transported to the East Continent, she was lucky enough at first—she was selected and admitted to our Chenjiao Women's Academy, just as she wished. But her situation afterward was not so good." Huo Yudie watched Wei Zhao's shifting expression as she spoke.
"Not so good how?" Wei Zhao's heart tightened slightly.
"Because before long she offended someone she shouldn't have—the granddaughter of one of our Chenjiao Academy's vice-headmasters. So a charge was trumped up against her and she was thrown into the dungeon. After harsh interrogation and torture, she told everything she could and everything she shouldn't have. That's how I came to know about you." Huo Yudie's tone was frank.
"What!" Wei Zhao was startled again. He had guessed that a place like the East Continent was a den of dragons and tigers, and that even entering an academy was no exception. He asked urgently, "Then where is she now? What does she look like?"
"How would I know? I never paid her any attention at first, and by the time I did, she had already been beaten beyond recognition. Of course I couldn't see clearly." Huo Yudie shook her head.
"This..." Wei Zhao was suddenly frantic with worry. If this woman were just some outsider with no connection to him, it would be one thing—but the trouble was, she was very likely one of his own confidantes!
Hearing all this, how could Wei Zhao possibly stay calm? It was only because he had not brought his spirit bird this time that he did not, in his agitation, fly straight from the West Island to the East Continent!
Seeing the undisguisable tension on Wei Zhao's face, it was now Huo Yudie's turn to be somewhat taken aback. All she cared about was the matter of the five-element constitution; she had never expected the other party to be so flustered. Could there be more to this than met the eye? (To be continued.)
