Chapter 816 — Contamination
Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2
Another voice suddenly came from the darkness, cutting off the Upper Narrator's words.
The voice was low and slightly noisy, as though countless different languages were mingled within it, yet its core remained clear and distinct, and to Selina it was all too familiar—it was Gao Yang's voice!
Suddenly, additional light appeared in the darkness beyond the birdcage, a radiance that seemed to be moonlight cast by an invisible moon, illuminating new land beyond the birdcage, the spiderweb, and the god. A tall, powerfully built figure stood upon that land, standing between Selina格尔 and the Upper Narrator!
Selina stared at the figure in astonishment, only to find that the state of the "Outlander Wanderer" was very strange. She saw black smoke and flame writhing around Gao Yang in shadowy coils, and extra shadows kept sprouting from his side. The sight was eerie to the point of being frightening, yet the aura emanating from that tall figure was unmistakable—it was indeed Gao Yang, the "Outlander Wanderer."
"Why do you still exist?!" The spider god, vast as a mountain, finally showed a trace of surprise. In an instant, all the red light around its head fell upon Gao Yang. "You were clearly eroded and assimilated, your mind... how could you possibly still exist?!"
"Ah, the contamination is indeed severe. Look at me now... I might well be frightening enough to make Betty cry." Gao Yang, shrouded in black smoke and flame with extra shadows constantly sprouting around him, looked down at his own body, his tone rather flat. At the same time, those eerie contamination marks on his body were receding with his words, receding at a speed visible to the naked eye!
Duvalt's voice grew even more astonished: "You... you're devouring them..."
"One thousand five hundred and twenty-three years of history, one thousand five hundred and twenty-three years... truly a long stretch of time..." The "foreign contamination" that had never belonged to Gao Yang rapidly dissolved from his body. He slowly raised his head and calmly met the gaze of the Upper Narrator's colossal head, a note of something different, something like emotion, entering his voice. "It can't have been easy, has it?"
Then he shook his head: "A pity. For me, it's still too brief."
"Enough—we have no need of accidents!"
The Upper Narrator Duvalt seemed finally provoked by Gao Yang. Amid a surge of aura that seemed capable of tearing apart the entire space, a gigantic jointed limb rose high and came crashing down toward the top of Gao Yang's head, and the pressure and momentum it carried were far beyond anything the Duvalt who had turned into a spider monster on the abandoned plains could compare to—
It seemed capable of piercing through the entire world, of cutting the boundary between reality and illusion.
Yet that jointed limb stopped eerily when it was still a meter from Gao Yang.
Then countless pale golden cracks swiftly spread across the entire limb and began creeping upward.
The Upper Narrator's enormous body shook violently upon the spiderweb, as though two conflicting forces had suddenly arisen within Him, contending for dominance over this body. And beneath that terrifying conflict, more and more fissures gradually covered the surface of His body, as though He might split apart at any moment!
"What is this... what have you done..."
Selina heard that "god" crying out in shock, and the mental contamination in that cry made her head split with pain, until she had to exert the full power of the Dream Lantern just to barely hold herself together. Then she heard Gao Yang's calm voice ring out, a note of regret in his tone—
"Young god, you are too young. I, a mere mortal, am more cunning than you imagine...
"I let you contaminate me on purpose."
A thunderous voice rang out: "What did you say?!"
"I did it on purpose," Gao Yang raised his head, quietly watching the Upper Narrator's body gradually crack apart before his eyes. "Because there are some things that can only be done by opening the door wide.
"If I hadn't accepted your contamination, what would I have to contaminate you with?"
