Chapter 226 — A Big Shot Sneaks In
Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2
In any case, Gao Yang thus raised his guard a notch, and decided to be even more cautious in avoiding contact with others: the higher the permission level, the fewer people could pass, and the fewer who could pass, the greater his chance of drawing attention there. If the Eversleeper he had devoured happened to be something like one of the Four Heavenly Kings or Five Great Elders in this whole cult, then barging into the highest-permission space and coming face to face with the remaining kings and elders would expose everything.
He was not afraid of losing a psychic confrontation to these weaklings whose memories and experience did not even span a few hundred years, but if his account were deactivated and he were kicked out of this psychic network, that would be a real mess.
And as he proceeded so discreetly, he suddenly noticed a small plaza ahead. Suspended in midair above the center of the plaza was an exquisitely beautiful pale blue crystal; the faint glowing particles drifting from its surface bathed the whole plaza in a mysterious beauty. Around the crystal stood scattered figures, none of them speaking to one another—clearly not gathered here for a meeting. Gao Yang saw a few of them place their hands on the crystal's surface, while the rest simply stood with eyes closed, as if in contemplation.
What was that crystal for?
Gao Qi frowned and began searching the memories of the Eversleeper he had devoured. After a painstaking search, he finally found a hint amid the disordered, fragmented information—it seemed to be some device for transmitting information, and a high-grade one at that.
Was it a higher-level communication node of the psychic network? The "materialized projection" of a communication node within the virtual space?
Gao Yang hesitated a moment, then decided he could not let this opportunity slip.
Without betraying anything, he came onto the plaza and also placed his hand on the crystal. The cultists beside it turned their faces slightly to glance at him, but no one spoke; the two nearest merely shifted their feet a little to make room for Gao Yang.
Gao Yang did not respond much, only giving a slight nod. He had already established a connection with the crystal, and now he must focus entirely.
After several rather unsuccessful attempts, he finally figured out how to apply the knowledge he had gained from devouring. Suddenly, he felt fragments of information flash through his mind, and the next second, a vast database swung its doors open to him!
Success!
Enormous data and information were flowing through Gao Song's mind. He observed in astonishment the "database" these Everbound cultists had constructed within the psychic network, and once again marveled at this world's technological tree—impossible to say whether it was advanced or backward.
Who could have imagined that a pack of raving cultists had actually built a vast psychic network on such a superficially backward, medieval-looking world—a vast virtual world, a vast structure for exchanging and processing information!
Of course, they had raised it all by brute force, through unreasonable magic, and their manner of employing this advanced system was itself exceedingly primitive and backward. In Gao Yang's eyes, they were far more devoted to crafting a virtual world of utmost hedonistic pleasure than to using this psychic network to solve any practical problems—yet it could not be denied that this was truly a magnificent creation.
So magnificent that Gao Yang could not help but start scheming to get his hands on it...
And even as all manner of ideas for stealing their techniques surfaced in his mind, Gao Yang did not pause his search through those streams of information. Most of it was useless, for this virtual world had only just come online, and the bulk of the content in its information network consisted of status reports on the operation of illusory spaces here and there. But suddenly, one piece of information caught his attention:
"Announcement concerning the eighteenth attempt to crack the memory fragments of Gao Yang Cecil, and the requisitioning of additional computing power."
