Chapter 865 — Underestimated
Of course, none of this could be said to Ye Guxing. If he knew, his heart would ache for his daughter, and he might well abandon that grand plan twenty years in the making... The Supreme Elder could not allow that. What she wanted to see was the glory of the Dark Night Palace!
"What's this? Ye Wan'er, do I need to come drag you out myself?" The Ninth Elder, seeing that Ye Wan'er still had not stirred, gave a cold smile and snorted, "Don't push your luck, as if you're some rare prize! Nothing but a broken flower, a withered willow!"
Ye Wan'er gave a sorrowful sigh. She had not expected that in the end she still could not escape.
Was she really going to die here?
If they killed Chu Pengzhan, if they destroyed her child, they might as well kill her along with them!
She had not known Chu Pengzhan long, but their hearts were already bound tightly together. To make her marry another was utterly impossible—better that she die.
"We... I'm afraid there's no escaping this..." Ye Wan'er looked at Chu Pengzhan and said bleakly, "Without you, without our child, I'd rather die than live!"
"Wan'er, don't worry. At worst... I'll die with you!" At this point Chu Pengzhan had instead found his peace of mind. He gripped Ye Wan'er's hand tightly and said gently, "Wan'er, to share life and death together—that is a kind of blessing too! We're no match for them, so there's no need to resist!"
"Mm!" Ye Wan'er had not expected Chu Pengzhan to say such things. People said that man and wife are birds of the same forest, each flying off when disaster comes. Yet in this dire moment Chu Pengzhan still refused to abandon her, never once thinking of pushing her out to save himself—that was already extraordinarily precious.
"Little Lange, the two of us will go out alone. There's no need for you to be dragged into our affairs!" Chu Pengzhan looked at Little Lange and said gravely, "Hide here, and come out only after we've gone!"
Little Lange had first protected Chu Pengzhan and Ye Wan'er purely to curry favor with Yang Ce. But as he spent time with them, the three had become good friends, and he and Chu Pengzhan had become the closest of companions!
Little Lange came from the gangs; loyalty was his creed. How could he agree to this? A surge of valor rose in him: "No! I'll go out with you. We came together—if we die, we die together; if we live, we live together. There may still be a chance!"
"You... why must you do this?" Ye Wan'er smiled bitterly. "A chance? There's certainly none. You don't understand their strength—the three of us cannot stand against them! Don't be fooled by their small numbers. They are like—"
"All right, it's settled!" Without waiting for Ye Wan'er to say more, Little Lange was already scrambling out of the rubbish heap.
"Eh? Another one? Boy, was it you who led them in their flight?" Elder Cui frowned. He had not expected a third person to be hiding in the rubbish heap.
"That's right!" Little Lange nodded. "I don't care where you people come from, but let me offer you a word of advice: this is Las Vegas—not your territory! In your dealings, you'd best leave a little room, or else, when the Xingyun Sect comes swarming to surround you, that won't be so easily settled."
"Oh? Are you threatening us?" Elder Cui looked at Little Lange, finding it rather amusing.
He had not struck in the crowded downtown area because people of the ancient stratum would not act against ordinary people unless necessary. Of course, Chu Pengzhan could not be counted as an ordinary person—he was the enemy of the entire Dark Night Palace and the Heavenly Elixir Sect.
"That's right. As the saying goes, two fists are no match for four hands! My Flying Car Party, and several gangs friendly to us, number fully ten thousand. If you mean to act, you'd best weigh the consequences!" said Little Lange.
"Consequences?" Elder Cui laughed. He turned to the Ninth Elder of the Heavenly Elixir Sect beside him and asked mildly, "Do you think two fists are no match for four hands?"
"Four hands? Not four hands—a hundred hands, ten thousand hands, I couldn't care less," the Ninth Elder said arrogantly.
"Nobody move! You're surrounded!"
At that very moment, two enormous black trucks emblazoned with a "racing flag" emblem pulled up at the entrance to the rubbish dump, and no fewer than thirty or forty burly men armed with submachine guns leapt down from them. From the passenger seats of the trucks emerged two men with rocket launchers slung over their shoulders!
These were all Old Lange's men. This time Old Lange had truly resolved to go all in, bringing out even the gang's heavy weapons. Fortunately, this was the outskirts of the city, with few people about, so there should be no trouble.
"So this is your trump card?" Elder Cui's gaze swept disdainfully over the black-clad men. He asked mildly.
By now Chu Pengzhan and Ye Wan'er had also come out of the rubbish heap hand in hand. Seeing that Old Lange's men had arrived, Ye Wan'er's expression shifted slightly!
Though these men all carried weapons and looked formidable, Ye Wan'er knew that such weapons could inflict no great harm on Elder Cui and the Ninth Elder!
"Little Lange, I appreciate your kindness. Now, take your men and leave," Ye Wan'er said. "The Chixiao Sect does not lightly strike at ordinary people!"
"Ye Wan'er, there's no need to provoke me with words. It's true that the Chixiao Sect does not lightly strike at ordinary people, and you may indeed send your friend away. It's just that he doesn't seem to believe it—he's rather arrogant, thinking these weapons can deal with us?" Elder Cui had little interest in killing Little Lange. If it was not necessary, he did not want a conflict with the local gangs.
After all, they still had to board a flight home, and this was their territory. If anything happened to Little Lange, whether they could even board their plane would become a question. They had other ways to leave the country, true, but for now, sparing Little Lange was a trivial matter.
"However fast you are, can you outrun a bullet?" Little Lange really did not quite believe it. "They say in martial arts, only speed is unbreakable—but can you be faster than a bullet?"
"Only speed is unbreakable? You've been watching too many TV dramas, haven't you?" Elder Cui curled his lip disdainfully. "I don't need to be faster than a bullet. Go ahead, shoot me. I won't dodge or block, and it still won't do a thing to me! Ye Wan'er, tell him why!"
"The true qi body-shielding of a Heaven-rank master—ordinary bullets cannot harm them..." Ye Wan'er sighed. "And even if he wanted to dodge, he truly could. His speed... is indeed faster than a bullet!"
"Ah?" Little Lange was stunned. He had not expected the enemy to be so powerful. It seemed he really had underestimated the man before him!
