Chapter 286 — The Night Raid Plan
Years of Heartflutter Page 3 of 3
Aiding the wicked, dragging his grandparents down with him into suffering... Wang Renping truly wanted to live a decent life, to be an ordinary driver, plain and simple, without needing to earn much money—but not like this, living every day under pressure and the condemnation of his own heart.
Yang Ce had not expected Wang Renping to name such a place. He parked the car in front of Old Wang's One-Penny Big-Bowl Noodle Shop, and the two of them got out together.
By now the shop was close to closing. Old Wang, the owner, was tidying up. When he looked up and saw a car parked at the door of the noodle shop, he could not help but be a little surprised; looking more closely, he saw that one of the people getting out of the car looked quite familiar.
"Renping? Is that you?" Old Wang narrowed his eyes and looked at Wang Renping before him. Ever since Tian Long had sent Wang Renping away for training and then assigned him to Sun Lin as driver and bodyguard, Wang Renping had not come to this noodle shop to eat.
All told, it had been ten years, so Old Wang was rather startled to see Wang Renping appear so suddenly.
"Uncle Wang, it's me!" Wang Renping walked over warmly and affectionately, seeming to forget his recent troubles for the moment and return to the years of his youth: "Bring us each a big bowl of noodles!"
"Right away!" Old Wang nodded and called toward the back: "Two big bowls of noodles, extra minced meat."
Wang Renping's family had been poor in the old days, so every time Wang Renping came to eat noodles, Old Wang would take special care of him, adding a little extra minced meat to his bowl. Now he added that instruction out of habit.
Hearing Old Wang's words, Wang Renping could not help but laugh with open delight: "I never thought you'd still remember, Uncle Wang!"
"How could I forget! You ate noodles at my place for years!" Old Wang laughed. "It's been many years since you've been by, hasn't it? And you've come in a car? Made something of yourself now?"
"Nothing so grand—just driving for a boss," Wang Renping answered with a smile. "That's plenty good too!" Old Wang nodded. "Driving for a big boss takes ability. These days, without a bit of ability, how could anyone hold their ground?"
There were no other customers at night, so before long the two steaming bowls of noodles were brought out, fragrant steam spilling everywhere. One look showed the broth was made from a rich old stock, and Yang Ce's appetite surged at once.
In truth, many delicious things are not necessarily found in the great hotels. In the little streets and back alleys there are all manner of earthly delicacies—not expensive, but utterly delectable.
