Chapter 219 — Sordid
The Sword Questions the Heavens Page 3 of 3
The giant coffin gave out a low rumble in midair, a deep "wuwu" echoing beneath it, its vast shadow falling over Xiao Bai's slender, graceful form. It was a truly uncanny sight.
Even the demon sorcerer in the coffin by the wall was struck dumb by this sudden bizarre act of Xiao Bai's.
And the darkness in the room seemed startled by her strange behavior as well; in the violent churn of the air came a sinister hissing sound.
Xiao Bai landed in the courtyard of the mortuary. Without the slightest hesitation she gathered her strength; a faint white light flashed across her five fingers, and her right arm swung sharply. The great coffin, drawn by a tremendous force, hurtled through the air at her arm's command and smashed thunderously against the hard stone of the ground.
Boom!
The tremendous roar resounded far and near in an instant. A suffocating cloud of thick dust billowed up in all directions like mist, and the whole enormous coffin was shattered to pieces, splinters of broken wood flying everywhere.
Xiao Bai had already darted aside. The sharp splinters she naturally did not regard, but the filthy flying dust was more than she could bear. And then, piercing through the thick smoke and dust, there suddenly came a fit of violent coughing, and a moment later a figure came tumbling and staggering out of the dust, clothes torn to rags, face covered in dirt, in a most wretched state.
Inside the little room, the demon sorcerer felt every hair on his body stand on end, and his jaw dropped. There had been someone hidden in the coffin beside the little room as well! For a moment he felt that all around him was truly thick with ghostly menace, and that everything was suspect.
And just as he happened to glance downward, he noticed that the fat man sharing his coffin wore a trace of mockery in his eyes, and at the same time seemed somewhat gratified as well.
Outside in the courtyard, the flying dust gradually settled. The man who had stumbled out of the coffin was crawling to one side, gulping great breaths of fresh air. Xiao Bai reached out and waved and swatted a few times before her, somewhat irritably, fanning away the lingering dust, then slowly walked toward the man.
The man turned his head and gave a dry laugh.
Xiao Bai looked him over carefully, then suddenly started and blurted out, "It's you?"
The man gave a bitter laugh, seeming somewhat embarrassed as well. He reached up and wiped the dust from his face, then said with a dry chuckle, "Naturally it is I, the great immortal himself."
The man who appeared before Xiao Bai, the Nine-Tailed Celestial Fox, was unexpectedly none other than Zhou Yixuan, who styled himself "the Immortal Who Points the Way, the Infallible Diviner."
