Chapter 4685 — Wishful Thinking

Seeing Huo Yudie in such a limp and helpless state, Wei Zhao was honestly rather puzzled. A few moans at the start were understandable enough, but why it had ended up like this—only the devil knew. He himself certainly could not make sense of it.
Just as Wei Zhao was silently grumbling to himself, a voice popped into his mind out of nowhere: "I'd say you got her all worked up."
"Pfft! Cough, cough, cough!" A remark like that, dropped in while he was so deep in thought, nearly scared Wei Zhao out of his wits. He choked several times before he managed to force it down, then complained in exasperation: "Senior Ghost, are you trying to frighten me to death?"
"Frighten you? Weren't you the one saying only the devil knew? So I've come in person to explain and help you work it out, boy." The ghostly thing cackled with a strange laugh, its tone carrying more than a hint of gloating.
"Uh... all right, fine. But Senior, do you think you could be a little more careful next time? Don't go driving me into an asylum—it does you no good either..." Wei Zhao shook his head helplessly, then after a pause added: "By the way, Senior, your English is pretty smooth. If someone didn't know you were the former Azure Dragon, I'd fight anyone who dared call you a native of Cloud Tier Island!"
"Heh heh, I picked up your human ancients' tongue all on my own without a teacher or a single lesson—so what's a barbarian language like this to me? You underestimating me, boy? If I felt like it, I could recite every language in your mortal world, and don't you doubt it." The ghostly thing spoke in a tone of complete indifference.
Wei Zhao was struck speechless once again. An existence on the ghostly thing's level really was beyond all reason—aside from the most basic instinct for slaughter, it even possessed such terrifying talent for a thing like this. How were the poor students of the mortal world, wailing and groaning over their studies, supposed to live with themselves?
While Wei Zhao and the ghostly thing were conversing through their spirits, Huo Yudie finally seemed to grasp what Wei Zhao had said earlier. Her reaction came a beat late; blushing furiously, she said in a voice as faint as a mosquito's: "Really? You're not lying to me?"
The reason for her shyness was that she had been agonizing all along over whether she might be some wanton, shameless woman. However innocent Huo Yudie might be, she was still an expert at the pinnacle of the Nascent Soul stage, and her true age was by no means young. Regarding matters between men and women—no one would ever bring such things up with her, but she could read books herself.
In the scripture repository of the Chenjiao Academy, there were all manner of books, a dazzling array of every kind, and among them were works touching on this very subject—some of them highly specialized texts devoted to the study of dual cultivation between man and woman. After all, it was a women's academy, and there were always disciples who would take that path.
It was in such an atmosphere that Huo Yudie, out of curiosity, had once leafed through books of that sort, and that was how she knew some women reacted that way at such times—though not all women did, only a small minority. She had always considered herself thoroughly pure and chaste; how could she be like that...
And if that were all, it might have been bearable. But the problem was that she had actually sprayed all over Wei Zhao while he was drawing the poison out for her. As a young woman, how could she ever show her face in public again—and especially, how could she bear to face Wei Zhao?
"No, I'm not. What would lying to you get me—an extra ten percent of the share?" Wei Zhao laughed inwardly. Outwardly, though, he kept a perfectly straight face; otherwise he could not guarantee the girl wouldn't die of shame. Right now the pressing matter was to hurry up and find the Lei Xuan Vine—there was no time to waste.
