"You're going to him just like that? You don't know his temperament, his likes, what he needs—and you think you can get his help?" Tianchan shook her head with the air of one despairing over a hopeless case. "If you botch this, your young sect master is beyond saving!"
"Young Sect Master Tian worries too much. A petty Earth Rank loose cultivator—I, Earth Drill Star, don't even consider him worth my attention. Dangle a few benefits before him, and wouldn't this Wei Zhao come scrambling to help?" Earth Drill Star said with lofty indifference. "And even if he refuses, I can force him to. I may not match Young Sect Master Tian, but I am still a mid Heaven Rank expert!"
"Oh? Then off you go—you and your young sect master can die right here. Don't say the Xuandan Sect didn't warn you," Tianchan said coldly, frowning.
"What? Is Young Sect Master Tian planning to step in by force?" Earth Drill Star was taken aback, unable to grasp her meaning. He was a mid Heaven Rank expert—how could a mere Earth Rank Wei Zhao do anything to him? So he understood it as the transformed Tianchan wanting to intervene.
"I won't intervene in such matters. I'm merely telling you that your mid Heaven Rank amounts to no more than a single move in Wei Zhao's hands," Tianchan said calmly.
"What—a single move?" Earth Drill Star thought he had misheard. "How is that possible?"
"The two lackeys at Zhang Naipao's side, Demon Eight and Demon Nine, are both mid Heaven Rank experts. Both traded a single move with Wei Zhao—one dead, one wounded. Do as you see fit." Tianchan waved her hand. "I'm rather tired. I've done all that propriety demands where your affairs are concerned, and I've given you the warnings I should. Off you go!"
"No, wait!" At her words Earth Drill Star was frightened out of his wits. Whirling around, he dropped to his knees once more with a thud. "Young Sect Master Tian, it was Drill Star who was arrogant! Please, Young Sect Master Tian, help me—whatever you do, don't send Drill Star away. Our Young Sect Master Tu's very life hangs on this!"
Shocking as it was that Wei Zhao could have killed two mid Heaven Rank experts—and Zhang Naipao's experts at that—it was simply inconceivable, yet Earth Drill Star did not believe the transformed Tianchan would lie to him about such a thing. For one, there was no need; for another, all he had to do was return to the inn and ask Manager Sun and the other trial participants, and the truth would be plain.
So despite his shock, Earth Drill Star immediately began to plead. If Wei Zhao really was the man Tianchan described, then going to coerce him might well get himself killed on the spot.
"Then what else do you wish to know?" Tianchan asked in return, her face full of helpless resignation.
"Please, Young Sect Master Tian, tell me more about this Mr. Wei Zhao, so I can make my plans and prescribe the right remedy—so I won't be caught unprepared!" Earth Drill Star begged.
"Very well, then I'll tell you." Tianchan nodded. "Wei Zhao may be an Earth Rank expert, but his strength surpasses that of ordinary Heaven Rank experts. Even I am not certain I could defeat him!"
"What!?" Earth Drill Star's eyes went wide with dread. "Young Sect Master Tian... even you are not certain? Are you not an expert of peak late Heaven Rank strength?"
"That's right. I am not certain..." Tianchan nodded.
"Hiss—" Earth Drill Star drew a sharp breath. In his view, the transformed Tianchan had no conceivable reason to puff up another's courage and deflate her own—a cultivator of peak late Heaven Rank strength, the young sect master of the illustrious Xuandan Sect, actually saying she was inferior to an Earth Rank expert?
