When he had run missions in the primeval forests abroad, many addicts had been among the ranks of those enemy armed groups. Wei Zhao had never eaten pork, but he had seen plenty of pigs running; he copied the motions and began to puff away at the air.
Of course, he was putting on a show for whoever was watching on the other end. He did not know whether the surveillance cameras in the room had been switched on, but even if he had found a camera, he had no intention of smashing it. The point of his act was to lower their guard, to work through Hammer and get to someone of real weight.
As Wei Zhao saw it, Hammer's sphere of activity was no more than Conch Bar, and this place was only a Red Conch stronghold—certainly not the headquarters. Wei Zhao had come to kick the place over, but if he rushed in and started smashing things, those behind the scenes would likely have gotten word early and gone to ground, and all he would have done was wreck a bar and catch a few shrimp of underlings. That would never put a dent in Red Conch.
Wei Zhao looked to be puffing away, but in truth he was holding his breath. Having idly squandered three thousand yuan, he pressed the call button in the room, and before long Hammer came trotting in, wagging with eagerness.
"Well, brother, is the purity up to snuff?" Seeing the look of total bliss on Wei Zhao's face, and wanting to hook him as a repeat customer, Hammer's tone had warmed considerably—he had started calling Wei Zhao "brother" outright.
"Mm, not bad!" Wei Zhao waved a hand. "Bring me two drinks. I'm a little too wired; I want something to settle it down."
"Right away, brother, just a moment!" Hammer hurried out of the room and was soon back with two glasses of juice, which he set before Wei Zhao.
"How much?" Wei Zhao asked.
"Ha, brother, asking that is like looking down on me, isn't it? You tipped me so generously—these juices are on me!" Hammer would never make Wei Zhao pay for two glasses of juice. It was nothing of value anyway, so Hammer simply played the big spender.
"Fine, then I won't argue with you. Sit down and have a drink with me?" Wei Zhao pushed one glass of juice toward Hammer.
"Sure thing!" Hammer agreed readily. He too had been looking for a chance to cozy up to Wei Zhao, hoping to see whether Wei Zhao might buy a bit more white powder in one go and let him make another killing—that was exactly why he had treated him to the juice. Now that Wei Zhao had invited him first, he naturally took the opening and sat down. "What should I call you, brother?"
"The people in the trade all call me Cannon. You can call me Brother Cannon." Wei Zhao was used to using the name Zhang Naipao and used it once more.
"Brother Cannon—ha, now that's a mighty, virile name!" Hammer laughed heartily. "So, Brother Cannon, are you satisfied with the goods in our shop?"
