"What of it? The matter between Sister Yaoyao and Shield Bro was arranged by the families. There was no need to go telling anyone else, right, Sister Yaoyao?" Shen Yushu usually bickered and roughhoused with Gu Mengyao, but now the two stood on the same battle line — when an outside enemy appeared, they faced it as one. Hands on her hips, she stood in front of Gu Mengyao and spoke on her behalf.
"Arranged by the families?" Tang Zhi was taken aback. True enough, marriage alliances among such wealthy houses were nothing rare; if Shen Yushu said so, it really might be the case. After all, Gu Mengyao's standing was what it was — if she truly had no connection to Wei Zhao, why else would she be arguing about such things with her?
"That's right. Didn't you know? Shield Bro and Sister Yaoyao are progressing fast — they've already kissed!" Shen Yushu looked at Tang Zhi smugly. "What about it? You two haven't kissed yet, have you?"
Shen Yushu's words startled both Gu Mengyao and Tang Zhi at once. Gu Mengyao was startled, yet she betrayed nothing in her expression, as though tacitly conceding Shen Yushu's words, and gazed at Tang Zhi with an air of pride.
"What... what do you mean, we haven't? We've kissed too!" Tang Zhi looked at Shen Yushu and said, word by word, "We kiss all the time!"
Tang Zhi was thinking of that time during the hostage rescue at the hospital, of the private promise the two of them had made — a promise not yet carried out, but Tang Zhi supposed it was near enough. So she said it, refusing to show weakness.
Liu Xinlan had come along with Tang Zhi, but she found herself rather confused by the situation. She knew Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu as well — the two campus belles whose fame was in no way beneath Tang Zhi's — but their words left Liu Xinlan stunned.
What stunned her still more, of course, was what Tang Zhi had said: Yunyun and Wei Zhao had kissed? Liu Xinlan had been probing all along how far things had gone between Tang Zhi and Wei Zhao, but had never made any headway. Today Tang Zhi's self-disclosure left Liu Xinlan marveling — so the two of them, all quiet and unassuming, had already gone that far!
"Oh, kissing's nothing, really. Shield Bro hugs Sister Yaoyao all the time — he's even felt her breasts!" Hearing that Tang Zhi had kissed him too, Shen Yushu trotted out an even more sensational piece of news.
Gu Mengyao wanted to protest: when has Wei Zhao ever felt my breasts? But she knew Shen Yushu was fighting for her pride in this moment, so Gu Mengyao tacitly conceded her words as well.
"Wei Zhao's felt mine too!" Tang Zhi grew flustered and instinctively puffed out her chest. "Look — hers aren't as big as mine, so they can't be any good to feel!"
