Chapter 589 — The Eldest Miss and Tang Zhi

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

Even though she usually had her share of complaints and grievances about Wei Zhao, at this very moment they had all turned into pure worry.

"Dad, Wei Zhao is injured. I need to go check on him." Gu Mengyao threw the words over her shoulder at Gu Pengzhan and dragged Shen Yushu out the door.

Gu Pengzhan had actually wanted to go see for himself after hearing about Wei Zhao's injury, but seeing his daughter's frantic expression, he hesitated and then sat back down. "Drive carefully on the road."

Gu Pengzhan was quite pleased with the state of things between his daughter and Wei Zhao. It was plain to see that his daughter's feelings for Wei Zhao had gone well beyond mere concern for a bodyguard.

Shen Yushu had been eating candied sweet potato — a hot dish best enjoyed fresh off the stove, since it lost its appeal once it cooled. Wei Zhao hadn't arrived yet, but that was just how Shen Yushu was; nobody would say a word if she started eating first.

"Whoa, whoa — Sister Yaoyao, what are you pulling me for?" Shen Yushu had just stuffed a piece of sweet potato into her mouth when Gu Mengyao yanked her arm, and she very nearly choked to death, her eyes rolling back in her head. She had been too busy feasting in the dining room to hear Gu Mengyao's phone call or any of her conversation with Gu Pengzhan in the living room.

"Your Shield Brother is injured. Are you coming or not?" Gu Mengyao shot her a glare, thinking to herself: she really can put away the food — so how come she never gets fat? Does all the meat go to her chest instead? That kind of figure is something to be envied.

"What?! I'm coming, I'm coming — how did Shield Brother get hurt?" The moment she heard the news, Shen Yushu went pale with alarm and dashed after Gu Mengyao out the door.

"I don't know either." Gu Mengyao shook her head, retrieved her Audi A5 from the garage, and sped off toward Qianhua Shui'an with Shen Yushu in tow.

Behind their car, Uncle Qing's Bentley followed at a distance. Uncle Qing and Gu Pengzhan trailed along, worried that something might happen to the two girls out so late at night — though they had no intention of going in to see Wei Zhao with them.

The Qianhua Shui'an residential complex was not far from the villa neighborhood where Gu Mengyao lived, so even though she had made the phone call afterward, she arrived at Lai Pangzi's home first.

Lai Pangzi's wife, on the other hand, had to drive from Qianhua Shui'an all the way to First People's Hospital and then back again to fetch Tang Zhi, so naturally she would be slower.

"Lai Changshan?" The moment she walked through the door, Gu Mengyao recognized Lai Pangzi. Though she didn't know many people personally, she had attended countless galas alongside her father and had committed to memory the names of some of the most powerful bosses in Songshan City — and Lai Changshan was one of them.

Add to that his heavyset frame, and the impression he left was all the more indelible.

"You... you're the Big Shot? You know who I am?" Lai Pangzi was pleasantly surprised. A good relationship with the Big Shot would stand him in excellent stead in the years to come.

"My name is Gu Mengyao. What Big Shot? That sounds awful." Gu Mengyao frowned. "Where is Wei Zhao?"

Lai Pangzi pointed to a room with its door firmly shut. "He's in there. But he won't let me go in — he told me to stand guard out here for him."

"What exactly happened?" Gu Mengyao was desperate to see how Wei Zhao was doing, but since he had given orders that no one was to enter, she couldn't just push the door open either. It would be terrible if she ended up doing more harm than good.

Lai Pangzi didn't dare hold anything back, and told her the whole story of how Wei Zhao had helped Tang Zhi get her revenge. In his mind, since Gu Mengyao was the Big Shot, she ought to know about Wei Zhao's girlfriend as well.
