Chapter 1331 — The Dark Side's Weakness

At this point Gao Yang paused in thought. "The Earthly Dawn's main cannon... I recall the conventional main cannon of that fortress shouldn't have the range to strike the Wolf Ridge Mountains directly from Ruby City, so what Rebecca fired at the time must have been..."
"The supercritical accelerator," Bo Yu confirmed Gao Shao's guess. "She completed the final assembly of the accelerator while the Earthly Dawn was underway; the bombardment of the Wolf Ridge Mountains amounted to a 'test firing' after final assembly. Her Highness is still leading the technical staff in continuing to adjust and optimize the accelerator's rail structure, and she intends to build another one near the fortress's central axis..."
"She actually finished building that thing while the fortress was underway?" Gao Yang muttered in some surprise. "And she plans to build another? That is certainly her way of thinking..."
Beside him, Hetty spoke up thoughtfully: "Hmm... we were previously studying how to disrupt the command system of those aberrants—the creatures' immense threat lies chiefly in the fact that they suddenly acquired discipline and tactical awareness. The technical staff believe that a powerful energy disturbance could interfere with the psychic signals emitted by the dark priests behind those monsters. It was only that we could never locate this 'powerful energy source.' And now it seems..."
"And now it seems that granting Rebecca three supplementary budgets and not holding her accountable for blowing up the laboratory was indeed the correct decision. The value of supercritical acceleration technology is immense—at the very least, it has now proven its worth on the battlefield," Gao Yi said with a smile at Hetty, then turned his head toward Duke Bo Yu. "In my view, two supercritical accelerators aboard the Earthly Dawn is too few—whether the aberrants broke free of control because the Earthly Dawn's cannon fire killed their command node, or because the energy shock released by the accelerator's explosion severed the link between them and their controllers, we need more acceleration devices."
"Tell Rebecca to build as she sees fit. All applications for expansion and modification of the Earthly Dawn are to receive wartime special approval, with her holding full authority to decide. If onboard materials run short, she is to file a report and request them—the aerial transport corps will deliver them. The pressing priority is to further enhance the combat capability of the aerospace fortress battle group and to verify the destructive effect of the 'supercritical accelerator' upon the aberrant legions."
Gao Yang gave these instructions earnestly, then suddenly recalled something and his expression turned exceedingly grave: "But remember this above all—neither you nor Rebecca may seize local resources or the property of residents in the course of operations; if it is truly unavoidable, you must purchase them. Violators shall be charged with treason. This point is of the utmost importance, especially for the ground forces you command—this admonition must be passed down to the lowest-level commanders and repeated to the soldiers again and again. We cannot fight a war, drive off the enemy, and yet scatter our own ranks in the process."
"Rest assured," Bo Yu straightened at once and said in a deep voice. "Before setting out I repeatedly emphasized discipline to the officers and soldiers. After two years of vigorous reorganization and reform, the Western Legion has now cast off many of the barbarous ills of the old era. I will also disseminate your admonition throughout the army—Cecil's soldiers regard discipline as the very foundation of their honor, and this shall not change no matter how far we campaign."
Hearing Bo Yu's solemn pledge, Gao Xi nodded slowly—and just then, an additional communication suddenly connected to the arcane-net terminal before him.
