Chapter 960 — Deepening the Conversation

Blade of Dawn · Page 1 of 5

When the pale golden radiance before his eyes faded, Gaoyang found that he had already left the high mountain overlooking Agondor, and the magnificent murals and splendid columns of the upper sanctum now stood before him.

The corridor leading to the sanctum hall stretched out ahead, temple guards standing silent and still as sculptures on either side, while Hragor, high-ranking dragon priest, stood beside him, the powerful surge of magic gradually subsiding around his form.

"Was that some kind of spatial teleportation just now?" Gaoyang looked at the high priest with some surprise. "Your people have already mastered the technology of bending space-time?"

"That is the domain of gods. I am merely a clumsy imitator," Hragor said, his tone gentle and measured.

"It seems the dragon race's priests also borrow power from their gods," Gaoyang nodded thoughtfully, then looked toward the broad corridor ahead. "Can we go straight in?"

"Yes, please follow me," Hragor said as he began to walk, leading Gaoyang forward. But this time he brought Gaoyang only to the end of the corridor, stopping at the entrance to the hall. "Beyond this point, I regret I cannot accompany you."

Gaoyang raised an eyebrow in mild surprise. "You don't need to stand attendance beside your god?"

"This is a 'private' meeting," Hragor said meticulously. "Your Majesty Gaoyang Cecil."

Now this was getting interesting...

A strange feeling and a few conjectures rose in Gaoyang's mind. He said nothing further, stepped past Hragor who stood guard at the entrance, and strode openly through the vast open doorway—a door over ten meters tall, covered in giant reliefs and golden glyphs, forged from some unknown material.

A soft, comfortable radiance illuminated the holy hall. It was still as empty as during his last visit—apart from a ring of columns and the crystal drapes hanging from their tops, scarcely any other furnishing could be seen in the entire space. And at the center of the hall, the god's throne had long since been put away, replaced by a silver-white round table.

Tea and refreshments were set upon the round table, and two chairs stood beside it. The Dragon God Enya was standing before one of them, watching the doorway with a gentle expression.

Gaoyang approached the round table. He first confirmed his surroundings once more, discovering that in this vast hall there truly were only himself and Enya—this so-called private meeting was entirely literal. Not even a single attendant or guard was in sight.

Amid his surprise, he couldn't help but tease with a smile: "Such a spacious place, used only for two 'people' to talk—isn't it a bit wasteful?"

The Dragon God smiled faintly. "If you feel uncomfortable, I can make this place look like something else—even turn it into some room you are familiar with."

"That won't be necessary," Gaoyang waved his hand. "Spacious is fine. We can speak openly here."

The Dragon God paid no mind to his peculiar way of speaking with double meanings. She merely nodded, then looked into Gaoyang's eyes. "Then, since this is our first private conversation, perhaps I should reintroduce myself."

With that, She extended a hand toward Gaoyang and said in a low, gentle voice: "Enya, Protector of Tarrande, the Dragon Gods."

Gaoyang looked at the hand extended before him but did not respond immediately. The voice of the Dragon God Enya drifted into his ears, making him widen his eyes slightly. Yet beyond the mild astonishment, what he felt more than anything was "so it is as I thought."

"Gods"!

Since crossing the Eternal Storm, among the countless conjectures and speculations he had formed about Tarrande, one had finally been confirmed.

The Dragon God still held out Her hand, showing not the slightest impatience. Only upon seeing Gaoyang lost in thought did She remark casually: "Keeping a lady waiting too long is not a good habit."
