Chapter 795 — The Unscheduled Seat

This was the first time Gao Yang had ever set foot inside the central temple of Illusory Hub City.
The temple stood at the heart of Illusory Hub City, and in the structure of the psychic network, the data composing it lay in the deepest stratum of the entire web—directly monitored by the Order of the Profound Pole and ceaselessly watched by Pope Megor III. Every psychic activity within the temple zone operated under the highest security protocols, and the flow of data was controlled with extreme rigor.
For a long while, therefore, Gao Yang had never entertained designs on this area. To keep himself, a "stowaway," from being discovered by the temple's overseers, he had not even moved about near the temple zone.
Until today, when Daniel had become the overseer of the temple zone and reconstructed the data flow of the entire region.
Gao Yang teleported without qualm into the central temple's inner corridor, then unhurriedly walked into that magnificent circular hall.
In the ornate hall lit by source-less radiance, the figures of the Radiant Pole hierarchs emerged one after another. The surface of the golden round table at the hall's center was traced with numerous mysterious runes, each one shimmering in ripples as the attendees arrived. Gao Yang strolled slowly to the table's edge, his gaze calmly sweeping over the magical and holy sigils floating about the rim, and could not help but sigh inwardly—
Of course network people love their RGB. As if that stuff could really boost the psychic network's performance...
As his thoughts drifted, those figures had already swiftly solidified. The Long Slumber Order's Dark Pole hierarchs had reached the venue and now stood before Gao Yang.
Gao Yang glanced over the seating and saw that twenty-three seats had been arranged around the ornate round table—corresponding to the twenty-three Dark Sequence hierarchs, Daniel included.
But at this moment, one chair stood empty.
Gao Yang recalled what Daniel had reported—during the earlier exploration of Sandbox One, a Never-Sleeper Radiant Pole hierarch had suffered psychic contamination from an upper-layer Narrator while covering for the others. She had since been quarantined in the real world. So that vacant seat must be hers.
Gao Yang walked over to the empty seat and sat down casually. Not a bad spot—and now it was his.
Apart from Daniel, the Radiant Pole hierarchs had no idea that the Outworld Wanderer had already come to stand among them. They took their seats around the table in order; Yuri Charvin sat to Gao Yang's left, while another Dark Pole hierarch whom Gao Yang did not recognize sat to his right.
Several attending hierarchs could not resist turning their eyes toward where Gao Yang sat—though of course, all their gaze met was an empty seat. One Dark Pole hierarch shook his head and sighed. "Alas... let us hope Radiant Pole Wendy recovers as soon as possible."
A few murmurs of agreement rose around him, and the gazes directed at Gao Yang's position were laced with lamentation and melancholy.
Gao Yang felt a little awkward, but he kept his face set and stubbornly stayed in his seat... after all, Daniel was sitting right across the table, and the persona of the Outworld Wanderer could not be allowed to crack—an Outworld Wanderer simply did not flee his seat because of a little awkwardness.
Just then, a voice resounding through the venue declared the meeting open and relieved Gao Yang's embarrassment at the same time. "Everyone, let us begin."
Gao Yang looked toward the sound and saw Selena Geren seated not far from him, dressed in a simple, elegant white gown, her tone as serene and gentle as he remembered.
"His Holiness the Pope will also be taking part in this meeting," Selena went on.
Megor III?
