Chapter 275 — After the Battle

Blade of Dawn · Page 2 of 3

Gao Yang struggled to tear his gaze away from Tire's tail, only to find that he could no longer summon any association with "water nymph" or "wings"—even with twenty layers of filtering applied in his mind, that nymph was still arching her way over...

Then Tire arched her way right up to Gao Yang, lowered her hands with exquisite grace, and stretched in a lazy yawn fully four or five meters long: "Ahh—did I come late?"

"Was it you who brought the rain?" Gao Yang asked curiously, then immediately looked a little embarrassed. "Uh... I didn't expect you to come help."

Many of the soldiers on the wall had stopped what they were doing, looking at Tire with awe. They had already felt the healing and purifying power contained in this unusual rain, and now they offered their respects one after another. Tire, utterly unconcerned, waved a hand at the human soldiers and glanced at Gao Yang. "Rebecca sent me. Honestly, I'd rather be sleeping indoors, but this place is my home now, so I came to see how things stood."

"Rebecca, huh..." Gao Yang could not help glancing at the rest house behind the wall. The girl had already been carried down from the wall by Amber and was now resting in the rear. Although she had thrown only one great fireball in the entire battle, that earth-shaking fireball had not only annihilated nearly all the remaining enemies but also drained her own spiritual power completely. According to Hetty, she probably would not wake before evening.

Better let her sleep a while longer—after all, she might get an earful once she woke.

Tire drifted leisurely to Gao Yang's side, leaned out, and glanced down at the battlefield still smoking below. The flames on the battlefield had already been extinguished by the purifying rain, but the black-red smoke decomposing from those blood-red skeletons was still rising ceaselessly. The siren lady frowned slightly at the sight. "Is this the 'magic tide' you people went through back then?"

"No, these are just the monsters that appear within the magic tide; they carry the tide's power," Gao Yang explained. "These creatures most likely wandered out of the wasteland of Gondor."

"Hmm... interesting..."

"What's interesting?" Gao Yang looked at Tire curiously, then caught himself. "Right—you've been through a real magic tide. In your eyes, is the aura of a true magic tide very different from what's here?"

"Aura? Whether the aura is the same doesn't matter. The magic tide itself is the process by which magical power reshapes all things; this chaotic, disordered magical energy is the same whether in a great tide or a small one. What I called interesting... is these so-called monsters born in the magic tide."

"These monsters?" Gao Yang's expression turned serious at once. "Have you noticed something?"

"Did you see the way they decompose?" Tire curled her tail and pointed its tip at the corpses decomposing at the foot of the wall. "Doesn't the way their flesh breaks down look like ordinary matter—rock, soil, and the like—being decomposed by chaotic magic energy? Only faster, and more thoroughly."

"That's true..."

"Their existence is highly unstable. Once they die, their remains rapidly disintegrate—a sign of being in an 'intermediate state,'" Tire said unhurriedly. "I don't know how these things came to be either, but the traits they display are very much like some kind of 'failed product'—something undergoing transformation under the magic tide's influence but failing to complete that transformation. I can sense the energy released as they disintegrate; it's very close to chaotic magic energy, yet a little different..."

A faint crackle of arcane sparks interrupted the conversation between Gao Yang and Tire. Gao Yang turned toward the sound and saw Camille floating over from not far away. The arcane energy around this ancient mage seemed somewhat unstable, and his whole form flickered as if making poor contact.
