Chapter 149 — The Course of Love

So Yang Minlan did not deliberately avoid these occasional fits of small jealousy from Wang Yanqiu. Because Yang Shuoxuan knew clearly that most of the time Wang Yanqiu was merely asking, nothing more. Once she had the answer she wanted, she would put the matter behind her, and would neither cry and make scenes with Yan over it nor add to her own troubles because of it.

This was the temperament Yang Ce admired most. Fortunately, Chen Shutang was also developing in this direction, which gratified Yang Ce greatly.

"Do you really want to know?" Yang Hengye asked.

"What do you think?" Wang Yanqiu shot Yang Puqi a glare. "Fine, keep it to yourself. As if I care."

"If you really want to know, there's no harm in telling you." Yang Ce sighed, and in a leisurely voice recounted to Wang Yanqiu the story of himself and Su Ya—from their first meeting to their forced parting, all the way to their reunion in Macau. The story seemed simple enough on its face, yet it was full of twists and turns, partings and reunions, joys and sorrows, and for a time Wang Yanqiu listened spellbound. When he heard what Wu Chiren had done, he ground his teeth in fury. "Tell me where he is and I'll go back and kill him."

"Heh, he's already gotten the punishment he deserved. Otherwise, do you think I'd have let him live?" Yang Ce pinched Wang Yanqiu's cute little cheek and could not help but laugh.

"I suppose so." Wang Yanqiu nodded. "You're more capable than I am. I won't need to go kill him."

"Later she continued her concert tour, and this stop was probably in Europe. What happened after that hasn't come to pass yet, so that's where the story ends." In one breath, Yang Puqi laid out the whole account of how he and Su Ya had met.

"So you mean that trip to Macau, you were actually going to find Shu Ya, and you just happened to run into me?" Wang Yanqiu asked, somewhat astonished.

"That's right. I saw an old acquaintance about to be done in by someone, silly as could be, so I stepped in and gave you a hand—and the thanks I got was you wanting to kill me." Yang Ce shrugged and smiled wryly.

"And whose fault was that? You were always so lecherous back then, taking advantage of me." Now, thinking back on those days, Wang Yanqiu felt a sudden sweetness in his heart. The story of how he and Yan had met could fill a book all on its own.

Before he met Yang Ce, the words "romance" and "love" simply did not exist in the dictionary of Wang Yanqiu's life. True, sometimes he would daydream, would harbor hopes, but those were only thoughts dreamed in his sleep.

But then he met Yang Ce, and it thoroughly overturned everything Wang Yanqiu had believed before. Though Wang Yanqiu felt that his romance with Yan was hardly perfect, he was very happy now.

Yet thinking it over carefully, the way he and Yan had gone from mortal enemies to lovers—was that not an experience all its own? Did not those sappy soap-opera romances have similar plots?

Whenever he thought of this, Wang Yanqiu felt deeply content, felt that this month with Yan had been the happiest stretch of his life. If only it could go on forever—how wonderful that would be.

"When did I ever take advantage of you? You were the one who kept getting accidentally seen in the altogether, all right?" Yang Ce said with an aggrieved air.

"Forget it. You see me naked all day long anyway, I'm used to it. I can't be bothered to hold it against you anymore." Wang Yanqiu waved a hand magnanimously. "I never would have guessed Su Ya was your first girlfriend. I always thought it was Chen Shutang."

"Heh." Yang Yongjin knew there was no good way to answer that, so he could only give a dry laugh.

"All right, I'll stop teasing you. Make the most of this chance." Wang Yanqiu said, "Seems Su Ya's even worse off than me—she's barely seen you at all. And here I thought being your secret lover was miserable enough."
