Chapter 18 — Dumbstruck

Years of Heartflutter · Page 2 of 3

The only women connected to him were Chen Shutang, Lin Yanhe, Lan Ling, and Xiao Qing. He had already met Chen Shutang's and Lin Yanhe's parents, and he had met Lan Ling's grandmother. Then there was Xiao Qing—and Chu Huifang was his godmother, so of course he knew her.

Setting all that aside, whose mother was the woman in front of him? Yang Puqi's forehead was crowded with question marks.

Could it be Su Ya's mother, come to settle accounts with him? Unlikely. Yang Ce shook his head and studied the elegant lady before him in bewilderment.

"Which one? What do you mean, which one? You dare do it but not own up to it?" The lady sneered.

"Look, ma'am, I think you may have the wrong person." Yang Puqi was utterly lost.

"No mistake. It's you I'm looking for. Aren't you Yang Ce—student of Class Two, Grade 2008, Computer Science, Songjiang Engineering University?" The lady laid out his identity outright. "Father, a workshop worker at the Songjiang Bus Factory. Mother, unemployed."

"You've been investigating me?" Yang Wenru frowned. Whoever's mother this woman was, her methods disgusted Yang Moyi.

"If I hadn't looked into you, how would I know what your purpose is in being with my daughter?" the lady said.

"..." Yang Xu was speechless, gazing at the woman in front of him with a mixture of tears and laughter. "Are you done? If you're done, I'm getting off. First, I don't know you. My girlfriend's mother doesn't look like you. Second, you investigated me, and I find that thoroughly unpleasant."

"Quite the temper. Don't think I don't know about you calling my daughter," the lady said coldly.

"Me calling your daughter? Which daughter is it, exactly?" Yang Moyi said with some impatience. "If you want to talk to me, then say what you mean. Don't be so vague about it."

"Still pretending?" The lady gave a contemptuous sniff. "You and my daughter sit together in class every day. Don't think I don't know."

"Sit together?" Yang Puqi was stunned, then blurted out in shock, "Zhou Yanning—your daughter?"

"Hmph, so you finally remember. Seems you have quite a few girlfriends." The lady looked at Yang Ce with disdain. "To think you make your living off this sort of thing."

"So that's who it is." Yang Ce gave a cold smile and knitted his brows. "You're talking about Zhou Yanning. Heh—then you can rest easy. There's nothing between us."

"Denying it is useless. I've investigated the matter thoroughly." Watching Yang Juehuan's reaction, the lady said with deep disgust, "Today I've brought you here to make things clear to my face."

"I think I've already made myself perfectly clear. There is nothing between Zhou Yanning and me." Yang Linyue finished calmly and started to rise. What nonsense was this? From the insinuations in the woman's words, she seemed to think he was after her family's money—and it appeared she believed he was the sort who lived off women.

"A hundred thousand. Take the money and go." Seeing Yang Ce about to leave, the woman grew anxious and named her price outright.

"A hundred thousand?" Yang Ce snorted. What a self-important woman—foolish to the core. There was nothing at all between him and her daughter, and here she was already offering a hundred thousand yuan. A born sucker. And yet, sucker or not, Yang Shuoxuan had no intention of taking her money. For no other reason than this: Yang Yongjin was short on cash, yes, but the money wasn't worth taking. The moment he accepted it, it would look as though he really had done something.

"You'd give me a hundred thousand to do something that never happened—would you?" Yang Ce twisted his mouth in reply.

"Big talk. Seems you've done your share of swindling these past few years." The lady was somewhat surprised; from Yang Cenbin's tone, a hundred thousand yuan seemed to mean nothing to him.

"Is that any business of yours?" Yang Shuoxuan couldn't be bothered to argue. This woman was impossible.
