Years of Heartflutter · Page 3 of 3

As for why she had hung up just now—well, Sun Jie might be forceful, but on someone else's turf it was better to be a little polite. She had probably been in the middle of a toast and couldn't easily take the call.

After hanging up, Yang Ce checked the time. There were still two hours until nine, so he drove straight toward Red Flag Middle School.

Yang Ce had not forgotten the task Lan Ling's grandmother had entrusted to him: to keep an eye on Ma Xiaoyao, the old man who guarded the gate.

Passing a roadside supermarket, Yang Ce went in and picked up two bottles of Wuliangye. Then he thought it over and set them back down. His relationship with Old Man Ma wasn't all that good; if he suddenly gave him such a lavish gift, it would surely rouse his suspicions. So Yang Ce simply took two bottles of cheap liquor instead, paid, and left the store.

This way he could say someone else had given them to him and he was just passing them along—perfectly reasonable.

Yang Ce arrived at the gate of Red Flag Middle School and knocked on the door. After a while, Old Man Ma came out from inside, eyes bleary with drink, and glanced at Yang Ce. "Hm? Yang Ce, what are you doing here?"

To be continued.
