The Sword Questions the Heavens · Page 7 of 7

His voice broke off abruptly. His mouth fell slightly open. A ring of young disciples stood with heads bowed to one side, not daring to make a sound, not daring to move. Beyond the great door of the Yuheng Hall, Master Shuijing stood with a face of utter indifference, watching Elder Fan coldly. Beside her, Wen Pei was also gazing at Elder Fan, but with a face full of anger.

In an instant Elder Fan's forehead was drenched in sweat, his old face flushed crimson. He stepped back a few paces, utterly mortified, smiling bitterly without end. Master Shuijing walked slowly in, yet did not glance at Elder Fan again. Wen Pei, however, was clearly unwilling to let it go, and glared at him several times.

Among these Qingyun elders, Elder Fan had always been famous for his endless chatter, and now that he had been caught red-handed on the spot, the awkwardness was extreme. But Su Wan and Elder Yang on the other side clearly still had no idea what had just happened here. Seeing Master Shuijing arrive so unexpectedly, a flicker of surprise crossed Su Wan's face. She rose and said, "Senior Sister, why have you come?"

Master Shuijing frowned slightly, glanced around, and said, "I was about to ask you the same. You should be at Dazhu Peak—how is it you have come alone to Jietian Peak? If there was business, Tian Buhui should be the one to come running. Why are you here?"

Su Wan's lips moved. She looked at her senior sister, and suddenly her heart clenched with bitterness, and her eyes reddened.

Master Shuijing was startled, a flicker of unease passing through her heart. She glanced at Elder Yang beside her; Elder Yang shook his head with a bitter smile, but for a moment did not know how to begin. Master Shuijing grew anxious. She and Su Wan had grown up together, and the depth of their bond was far beyond the ordinary—truly like sisters of the same blood. Seeing Su Wan now as though some grave matter had indeed occurred, her worry deepened. Then, from the corner of her eye, she caught sight of the dark-green immortal sword Mo Xue that Su Wan had planted in the ground—and her shock was redoubled.

Just as she was about to press Su Wan for an answer, there came a flurry of hurried footsteps from the rear hall. Xiao Yichen came sweeping in like a whirlwind, his face filled with a panic rarely seen on him:

"Something has happened! Something has happened!"

Everyone in the Yuheng Hall was greatly startled. For Su Wan it was like a thunderbolt from the heavens; she felt a great "boom" echo through her mind, shaking her until heaven and earth spun around her. The worry that had coiled in her heart all this time seemed on the verge of shattering. Her vision went black, and she nearly fainted.

Master Shuijing caught hold of the ashen-faced Su Wan and turned to shout at Xiao Yichen, "What is it? Tell me clearly!"
