The Nether King seemed not to notice, and merely said, "Come over here."
Yousi walked over and stood upon the platform, and at once all before her was bright, with no stone path to block the view, laying the bottom of the cavern fully bare to her sight.
Beneath the cavern was, in fact, a vast pool of blood; fresh red blood filled the bottom of the great cavern, and where the Nether King Sect had gotten so much fresh blood, one could not imagine. The thick smell of blood in the air, no doubt, came from below.
In the blood pool, two enormous beasts were steeply submerged: one the Yellow Bird of the Death Marsh, the other the Kui Ox, the strange beast of Liubo Mountain in the East Sea. The greater part of both these ancient beasts' bodies was soaked in the bloody water, and at the same time, from above the pool, a dark red light streamed down upon each of them. Tracing that dark red light to its source, it issued from the Coiling Dragon Cauldron, which hung suspended in midair by some nameless force.
The Coiling Dragon Cauldron hung far from where the Nether King and Yousi stood, yet Yousi could still make out a black silhouette upon the cauldron working a spell, though blurred in the red glare. Even so, she knew well enough who it was—Mr. Gui, the most mysterious figure in the Demon Sect's Nether King Sect.
As one of the four Holy Envoys of the previous generation of the Nether King Sect, Yousi knew practically every matter of the sect, great and small; only this Mr. Gui was the exception. The reason was simple: this man had not originally been of the Nether King Sect, but had appeared suddenly at the side of the present Nether King after his ascension, and the Nether King held him in the utmost respect; and in the handful of times this mysterious figure had acted, the bizarre arts he displayed had made even masters of the Nether King Sect such as Qinglong and Yousi tremble.
Yet in Yousi's heart, she had always harbored deep vigilance toward this man, chiefly because it was under Mr. Gui's vigorous urging that the Nether King had finally begun, ten years ago, to set in motion the "Four Spirits Blood Formation."
The Coiling Dragon Cauldron, the sect-guarding treasure passed down through the generations of the Nether King Sect, was of mysterious and unfathomable origin, containing inexhaustible spiritual power, neither orthodox nor evil, and profoundly strange. Upon the body of the cauldron, besides archaic patterns, many mysterious inscriptions were carved, which the patriarchs of the Nether King Sect through the ages had been unable to fathom. But in the present Nether King's generation, he—a man whose mind encompassed all things, a rare genius such as appears but once in an age—happened to have at his side this Mr. Gui, who seemed to have made a particular study of such mysterious script, and with their combined efforts, they had actually deciphered these inscriptions.
It turned out that the inscriptions on the cauldron recorded a bizarre formation called the "Four Spirits Blood Formation," which required the spiritual power of four strange beasts from the primordial ages of antiquity to draw forth the cauldron's own uncanny magic, thus forming a peerless formation of unmatched power. According to the ancient cauldron's inscriptions, once this Four Spirits Blood Formation was completed, its power would suffice to destroy heaven and earth.
The Nether King was a chieftain of great talent and grand strategy, a rare hero of his age, and naturally he would not turn a blind eye to such formidable power. And in the battle of Qingyun ten years ago, the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation of the Canglan Sect had overawed the world, sweeping all before it, beyond what human strength could withstand; the Nether King pondered it carefully, and only this Four Spirits Blood Formation could hold any hope of overcoming the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation.
