Chapter 4918 — Hand Over Your Valuables

The Blossom Guardian

"Didn't you two just say it yourselves? I'm this little lady's paramour—the pretty-faced one," Wei Zhao said with a faint smile.

"Teasing me again!" Ni Caiyue bounced out from behind him, puffing with indignation—but one glance from the old owl opposite her and she shrank back in fright. A fine expert of the early Xuan Ascension stage with only this much courage; truly, one was left speechless.

"Then why is there lightning on your body? Don't tell me you're carrying some divine weapon?" The old owl's face was thick with wariness. He had merely reached out and touched Old Li's shoulder, and at once a ferocious surge of thunder power had poured into his body!

That intensity might not compare to a lightning tribulation, but to him it was already nothing short of lethal—it had nearly scared his soul clean out of him. Luckily his reaction was fast enough to kick Old Li flying in time; otherwise, at this very moment, both he and Old Li would have been two charred corpses.

"You guess." Wei Zhao smiled faintly. It just so happened that the ghostly thing was in secluded cultivation right now, warming and nourishing itself; otherwise it would surely have popped out to sigh in admiration—*You brat, that shameless look of yours has quite the flair of my younger days!*

Hearing this, the old owl nearly coughed up a mouthful of old blood. Pointing at Wei Zhao, he sneered viciously: "Don't get too cocky, pretty face. I don't know what eerie thing you've got hidden on you, but so long as I don't touch your body, I reckon there won't be any problem. I have at least a hundred ways to kill a man from a distance—care to try them all?"

"No, no, I don't have that kind of time. I'm a busy man." Wei Zhao waved his hands again and again, wearing an expression that said this was all too much trouble.

"You reckless pretty face. Don't get too full of yourself!" The old owl was choked into a fury of embarrassment by Wei Zhao's words. Though in name he was Chang Laiting's lackey, his true strength was in fact not much inferior to Chang Laiting's—it was merely that he had no backing. Otherwise, back in the day, he too could have ranked among the Four Young Masters of the Nascent Soul. And now, like Chang Laiting, he was one of those exceedingly rare three-spirit experts of the Xuan Ascension stage!

"Not at all, not at all—I'm merely speaking the truth. I still have to go find a few of my companions; I really can't waste time here with you two." Wei Zhao's tone could not have been more sincere.

"Old Li, what are you waiting for? Kill this pretty face!" The old owl flew into a rage at these words. But he did not lift a finger himself; instead, he quietly took a step back, terrified of being electrocuted by Wei Zhao again, and simply let Old Li—that thick-headed brute—take the lead.

As the words fell, Old Li on the other side immediately charged over, whirling a long curved blade and a short one. He had never liked the pretty-faced one to begin with, and on top of that he had just suffered a huge loss at Wei Zhao's hands—so what was there to think about now? He wished he could hack Wei Zhao to pieces on the spot!

Yet before he could reach Wei Zhao, he saw Wei Zhao give a casual wave of his hand where he stood—and at once a deep-blue bolt of lightning as thick as a water bucket erupted from his palm and poured straight down into Old Li's skull. Old Li had not the slightest chance to resist. Black smoke billowed from every inch of him; his legs gave a kick, and he dropped dead on the spot, life or death unknown.

At this sight, the already-terrified old owl nearly wet himself on the spot. His calves trembled madly; had his strength not far surpassed that of ordinary early Xuan Ascension experts, he would never have been able to remain standing—he would long since have collapsed to the ground in fright.

Even Ni Caiyue, hiding behind Wei Zhao, stood dumbstruck with her mouth hanging open, looking back and forth between Wei Zhao and the smoke-wreathed Old Li over there as though she had seen a ghost. For a long while she could not utter a single word.

Wei Zhao, however, merely clapped his hands as if nothing had happened, thinking to himself that all those times he had been struck by lightning had not been for nothing. Even without boosting it beyond his normal limits with extra thunder power as before, the might of his lightning strike could now rival an ordinary lightning tribulation. Against ordinary Xuan Ascension experts, it was practically one strike, one kill—unless it was a tough one like Leng Rufeng, who could just barely hold his own for a while.

Truth be told, Wei Zhao had actually held back. This time he had struck for only an instant before withdrawing; otherwise, had it lasted even a little longer, Old Li's entire body would surely have been charred to a crisp by the lightning.

As for that earlier jolt, it was purely these two bringing it on themselves. Wei Zhao had not even used his lightning strike—just the surplus thunder power in his body had been enough to scorch them crisp on the outside and tender within.

"You... you... just who are you? To actually be able to unleash a lightning tribulation?!" The old owl's face was now ashen, and he retreated again and again in terror, nearly stumbling and falling to the ground.

"That's right, why can you unleash a lightning tribulation?" Ni Caiyue chimed in as well, making Wei Zhao roll his eyes in exasperation. Just whose side was this little Ni girl on, anyway, joining in the fun like that...

"Heh, you can't even recognize thunder power, and you talk of lightning tribulation?" Wei Zhao shot the old owl a glance, folded his arms, and said coolly: "I can see you've got a bit of cleverness about you—you wouldn't be muddled about your situation now, would you? Hand over whatever good things you're carrying, quick. If they catch my eye, then I guarantee I won't strike you dead!"

"Huh?" The old owl was instantly on the verge of tears. It was clearly the two of them who had come to rob someone else, yet in the blink of an eye it had fallen on his own head—how was a man supposed to bear such a thing?

"Huh what? Let me be blunt: I'm not a patient man. You figure it out yourself." As Wei Zhao spoke, he gave his hand a cold, expressionless flick.

"No, no! Spare me, young hero!" The old owl was frightened half out of his wits, thinking he was about to follow in Old Li's footsteps. Yet after he hunched his neck and waited for quite a while, nothing happened at all. Only then did he give a sheepish grin and, not daring to dawdle, hurriedly began pulling things out of his person.

But after rummaging through everything inside and out for a good long while—even turning out his undergarments—all he produced was a pile of cut-rate junk and odds and ends. Not a single good thing among them.

"Young hero, this is all I have on me. What do you think..." The old owl sheepishly held out a few pills with both hands. They were the best things he owned, but they were merely a few sixth-grade pills of little use.

Wei Zhao could not help but be somewhat speechless at the sight. This was a pauper through and through! For a fine expert of the early Xuan Ascension stage to possess only this much to his name—it truly made one sigh. Had Wei Zhao been a little softer-hearted, he would practically have had to turn around and support the man instead.

Seeing Wei Zhao's odd expression, the old owl could not help but flush red with shame. He too felt this was utterly humiliating, but there was truly no help for it—not only was it so with him, but the same went for Old Li lying on the ground, life or death unknown. Whatever good things the two of them had, Chang Laiting had scraped away long ago. After all, when a man lives under another's roof, he has no choice but to bow his head.

"All right, take that idiot and get lost. Stop being an eyesore in front of me." Wei Zhao waved his hand with a look of disgust.
