Chapter 3463 — The Unlucky Zhang Duopan
But if Kun Cun took care of them himself, Wei Zhao would not say a word even if he found out, for it had nothing to do with him—and in any case, he had always found those two repulsive.
"Yes, Brother Kun!" Tu Feng grinned and pressed a button on his hand. When the driver of the motorhome received the signal, he found a place and pulled the vehicle over.
At this early hour there was scarcely a soul on the road. Tu Feng took one in each hand, and to the howls of Zhang Duopan and Fan Ganhe, hauled the two of them out of the vehicle.
Bai Weituo and He Meiyue were utterly astonished by the sight, left somewhat dumbstruck. Neither of them could fathom why things had suddenly taken such a turn.
Could it be that Tu Feng really meant to kill Zhang Duopan and Fan Ganhe?
Yet although Bai Weituo felt some sympathy for them, he did not speak up to make Kun Cun and Tu Feng stop. After all, the person Kun Cun had phoned earlier must have been Wei Zhao, and so the one ordering the deaths of Zhang Duopan and Fan Ganhe must also be Wei Zhao. How could Bai Weituo possibly argue with Wei Zhao's word?
So in the end Bai Weituo said nothing, and let Tu Feng drag Zhang Duopan and Fan Ganhe out of the vehicle.
"Big Brother, let us go! We were only joking—really, I'm one of Wei Zhao's men too! I was just afraid of dying before, that's why I said what I said. Now I'll tell the truth: I really am Wei Zhao's man... don't kill me!" Zhang Duopan wailed.
"Oh? Is that so?" Tu Feng halted and regarded Zhang Duopan coolly. "You're one of Wei Zhao's men?"
"That's right! I'm Wei Zhao's man, so don't kill me!" Zhang Duopan nodded furiously.
"Do you know why I brought you out of the vehicle?" Tu Feng asked.
Zhang Duopan blinked. "Why? Aren't you going to kill me? Or did you bring me out here to set me free?"
"You've hit the mark—I am indeed going to set you free," Tu Feng said with a nod. "What Brother Kun and I said in the vehicle was only to fool Bai Weituo. I brought you out here to let you go!"
"What? Really?" Zhang Duopan was suddenly bewildered. He wasn't going to die after all?
"Really!" Tu Feng nodded. "Except now I've decided to kill you."
"Why?" Zhang Duopan froze.
"Because you said you're one of Wei Zhao's men—and you already knew that Wei Zhao and I are enemies!" Tu Feng said.
"My God!" Zhang Duopan's eyes went wide. "You really are enemies? Then why did you say before that Wei Zhao was your Brother Kun's leader? Weren't you just playing us?"
"Playing you is exactly the point—to see which of you really are Wei Zhao's men and which aren't!" Tu Feng said. "Since you've now admitted you're Wei Zhao's man, you may go ahead and die!"
In truth, Tu Feng had only wanted to determine whether Zhang Duopan really was one of Wei Zhao's men, so as not to kill the wrong person. But after several probes he found that this fellow lied without batting an eye—clearly he was no follower of Wei Zhao, and would say any nonsense at all to save his own skin.
Bai Weituo, by contrast, was far more reasonable. From first to last, whether faced with death or not, he had said he was Wei Zhao's man. A man like that must truly be Wei Zhao's follower, and no impostor.
"Don't... don't!" Zhang Duopan hastily changed his tune again. He looked at Fan Ganhe beside him. "Fan Ganhe, tell them—are we Wei Zhao's men or not?"
"No, of course we're not! We've often plotted to do away with Wei Zhao and Bai Weituo!" Fan Ganhe said hurriedly as well.
"Oh? Haha, then let me tell you: Brother Kun really is one of Wei Zhao's men—he submitted only yesterday. After several probes, we've found you really aren't followers of Leader Wei Zhao!" Tu Feng laughed. "Of course, even if you were, we'd have no use for turncoats and double-dealers like you. You may die now."
"What?! You played us again?" This time Zhang Duopan was in utter despair. A single reversal or two might still be explained away, but to flip-flop again and again—there was no believing a word of it.
"Enough, stop your howling. I need to finish you off quickly and get back to report." Tu Feng dragged the two of them straight into a dense forest...
Meanwhile, back in the vehicle, Bai Weituo was nervously holding He Meiyue's hand, for matters had grown distinctly strange: Tu Feng and Kun Cun, who had been Wei Zhao's enemies, had suddenly become Wei Zhao's men.
Their purpose in detaining Bai Weituo and the others had been to lure Wei Zhao out and avenge their sect brothers—yet now they had abruptly switched roles, and Bai Weituo's instincts still held a measure of caution.
"Um... Brother Kun, are you really one of Leader Wei Zhao's men?" Bai Weituo finally could not help asking.
"Haha, Brother Bai, of course I'm one of Leader Wei Zhao's men—and you're one of Leader Wei Zhao's men too. But you entered the fold before I did, so I'll call you Brother Bai!" Kun Cun laughed heartily. "There were two odious fellows in the vehicle just now, so there were some things I couldn't say. Allow me to introduce myself: my name is Kun Cun, I am the sect master of the Right Miao Sect, and I am presently one of Leader Wei Zhao's men! I must beg Brother Bai's forgiveness for any offense I gave before!"
"Forgiveness is hardly the word... I'm only puzzled. Weren't you enemies with Leader Wei Zhao before?" Bai Weituo felt rather dizzy; the change was simply too rapid.
"Enemies we were, but Leader Wei Zhao subdued me, so that little grudge counts for nothing now," Kun Cun explained with a smile.
"I see!" Bai Weituo nodded. He understood at last—so the man had simply been beaten into submission!
They arrived at the Young Miao Grand Hotel. Kun Cun led Bai Weituo and He Meiyue upstairs, and in Wei Zhao's room they met with Wei Zhao. Only then did Bai Weituo truly breathe a sigh of relief.
So everything Kun Cun had said was true! He Meiyue looked at Wei Zhao, and a flicker of surprise crossed her eyes. Wherever this man Wei Zhao went, there seemed to be nothing he could not settle—it truly astonished her.
Take this present affair: it had been a dead-end trap, a feast fit for murder, yet Wei Zhao had dissolved it with ease—and more than that, had even gained a follower! It seemed Wei Zhao already had a great many followers, didn't he?
"Kun Cun, it seems you are a man of your word—my classmates are indeed unharmed." With Wei Zhao's strength, a single glance told him that Bai Weituo had suffered no injury, which lent some credence to Kun Cun's submission.
"Naturally. I, Kun Cun, say what I mean and mean what I say; what I've done, I've done, and I won't lie about it!" Kun Cun said with delight, hastening to add. RS
