Chapter 3191 — Tang Yuqi Concedes Defeat
So Tang Yuqi truly did not dare leave the building casually. He simply hid inside the unfinished shell of the building, waiting until Pure Cold Heavenly Venerable departed before he dared to come out. Yet he felt somewhat ashamed. Wei Zhao was likewise an early Heaven Rank expert, but he had dared to stand before Pure Cold Heavenly Venerable—a master at the peak of the late Heaven Rank—without so much as a change in expression.
What truly appalled Tang Yuqi, however, was this: it was one thing for Wei Zhao not to fear Pure Cold Heavenly Venerable, but Pure Cold Heavenly Venerable actually feared Wei Zhao—and feared him absurdly, trembling from head to toe. And from what Wei Zhao had said, it seemed Wei Zhao had already formed a deep enmity with that Tomorrow After Tomorrow Sect, and had even killed members of their sect. If a master at the peak of the late Heaven Rank was afraid of being finished off by Wei Zhao, then had Wei Zhao's strength not already defied the heavens themselves?
And yet Wei Zhao was, most certainly, only an early Heaven Rank expert. This baffled Tang Yuqi utterly. But since he was a detective, his mind was exceptionally sharp and his logical reasoning formidable. From those few brief exchanges between Pure Cold Heavenly Venerable and Wei Zhao, he could already judge that Wei Zhao's strength was absolutely not limited to what he had shown so far.
"Take this Minor Restoration Pill. Once you've recovered, we'll have our match," Wei Zhao said, pointing at the ground where Pure Cold Heavenly Venerable had left the Minor Restoration Pill.
"Much obliged!" Though half of Tang Yuqi's shoulder had been shattered, he could still walk. Enduring the pain, he nodded to Wei Zhao, then picked up the Minor Restoration Pill and put it in his mouth. For an injury like this, the Minor Restoration Pill was enough; there was no need yet for the Major Restoration Pill.
Tang Yuqi said no more, but swiftly refined the Minor Restoration Pill, and his injuries were brought under control. Even so, his wounds could not heal in an instant; some time to recuperate would still be needed. A match now was certainly out of the question.
"Go back and rest first. When you want to spar, just tell me," Wei Zhao said. His impression of Tang Yuqi was rather good, but that did not mean he would hand Qiu Lingshan over to him just because of a good impression.
To be honest, Wei Zhao's feelings for Qiu Lingshan were rather special. The two of them had been through a great deal together, and letting her go, giving her to someone else, was plainly impossible.
"No need for a match," Tang Yuqi said. "Mr. Lin, I know my own shortcomings. Just now, facing that expert from the Tomorrow After Tomorrow Sect, I was far, far beneath you. He feared you—that proves you possess strength that makes him afraid. Otherwise, with his power, he would have no reason to be so afraid, no reason to humble himself before you. And to me, he was a master who could wipe me out with a lift of his hand. So I am no match for you!"
"Heh..." Wei Zhao smiled. It seemed Tang Yuqi was not a stubborn man but a very rational one. Once he recognized the gap between them, he would not keep clinging on.
"Lingshan, I wish you happiness!" Tang Yuqi turned to Qiu Lingshan and said, "This time, I am convinced wholeheartedly!"
"Tang Yuqi, actually, you're a pretty decent person..." Qiu Lingshan felt a little embarrassed now.
"Well, I've just been handed a 'good guy card,'" Tang Yuqi sighed, then smiled and said, "Still, Captain Song, I'd like to stay on here. After all, my father is about to arrive, and it's hardly practical for me to go abroad to be a detective again. You won't fire me, will you?"
"With a bargain of a great detective like you working for me, of course I won't let you go!" Qiu Lingshan laughed.
Since Tang Yuqi had said as much, Qiu Lingshan naturally could not drive him away. If he wanted to stay, then let him stay—and it was plain to see that Tang Yuqi was a man of his word.
"Good, then we'll head back first. Auntie Wang, if you're not busy, why not come visit my villa? Lingshan knows the way," Wei Zhao invited. After all, back in Snow Valley, Auntie Wang had been of great help to Wei Zhao, and he had always been deeply grateful to her. But he also knew that Auntie Wang and Tang Yuqi had only just met, and she would surely want to stay with Tang Yuqi first to discuss matters. She could not possibly abandon Tang Yuqi to be a guest at his home.
"I won't go. Once things here are settled, I'll be heading back to Snow Valley," Mother Tang said. In truth, it was not a matter of being pressed for time; she simply did not wish to have too much contact with Wei Zhao, lest he recall the past. If that happened, all of Tang Zhi's painstaking efforts would have been wasted.
"Very well, then. We'll meet again when there's a chance," Wei Zhao said, not pressing the matter. He assumed Mother Tang was simply busy.
Qiu Lingshan went back alone, while Mother Tang and Tang Jucheng drove off with Tang Yuqi to find a place to catch up and discuss the matter of bringing Tang Jucheng's elder brother back to the country.
As for Wei Zhao, he drove Xu Shilan, Cheng Yiyi, and Shen Yushu back to the villa.
……………………
Dongfang Xiaocui was a woman with a loose tongue. After receiving Wei Zhao's forgiveness, the worried look on her face vanished completely. Not only that, she actually felt rather full of herself. There was no other reason: Wei Zhao had made a great name for himself among the ancient circles, and no one dared provoke him. Now that she, as the mother of Wei Zhao's underling Feng Shihua, seemed to have a connection to Wei Zhao as well, she felt she was quite the formidable figure too.
Dongfang Xiaocui's demeanor did not escape Feng Tianhu's notice. He was currently anxious over the matter of Wei Zhao, and when he suddenly saw Dongfang Xiaocui—a grasshopper tied to the same rope as himself—looking so happy, he naturally sensed something was off.
So, finding a moment when no one was around, Feng Tianhu stepped squarely into Dongfang Xiaocui's path. "Sister-in-law, you've been quite cheerful these past few days, haven't you?"
"Ah... Tianhu, what... what are you up to?" Dongfang Xiaocui was startled by Feng Tianhu's sudden appearance and asked hastily.
"Nothing much. I'm just puzzled. I heard that Wei Zhao is about to come knocking to teach you and me a lesson—so how can Sister-in-law still be so happy? I merely wanted to remind you, Sister-in-law, so we can discuss how to deal with it together," Feng Tianhu said, as if he meant every word.
"You... you're talking nonsense!" Dongfang Xiaocui had no guile in her at all. Frightened by Feng Tianhu, she immediately blurted out the truth. "Shipian called Wei Zhao! And Wei Zhao said he won't take it out on me. Even if he wants revenge, he'll go after the Dongfang family first, not me... so stop trying to scare people!"
"Oh?" Feng Tianhu feigned confusion on his face, but inside he was overjoyed. No wonder Dongfang Xiaocui had stopped being afraid these past few days and was smiling so merrily—it was because Feng Shihua had asked Wei Zhao! He breathed a sigh of relief at once, though on the surface he said, "Is that so? So that's how it is. Then perhaps I heard wrong?"
