Chapter 1145 — Feng Xiaoxiao's Misunderstanding

The Blossom Guardian

But they had barely reached the car before Shen Yushu tossed the drinks in her arms into Feng Xiaoxiao's hands, keeping only a single can for herself. "Here, you take them over!"

"Huh?" Feng Xiaoxiao was still staring blankly when Shen Yushu had already dashed off toward Wei Zhao.

Shen Yushu ran up to Wei Zhao in a few quick strides. Once Tang Zhi had slipped the oyster meat into Wei Zhao's mouth, she popped open the can and handed it to him, beaming. "Brother Shield, now that you've had the big wife's oyster, take a sip of the little wife's drink!"

"Sneaky Shu, you're absolutely shameless! I was just about to bring Wei Zhao his drink!" Feng Xiaoxiao, arms piled high with cans, was about to explode with rage. She glared at Shen Yushu. "What kind of little wife are you? You haven't even been certified, you just call yourself one. I'm the genuine little wife."

"Hehe, so what? That's what you get for being half a beat slow." Shen Yushu was utterly unbothered.

"Hmph, hmph!" Feng Xiaoxiao just glared at Shen Yushu without a word.

"All right, all right, I'll let you have it..." Shen Yushu thought it over and decided to yield the chance to Feng Xiaoxiao. After all, the girl was practically dying — what was the point of competing with her?

Gu Mengyao and Tang Zhi, who had walked back over, exchanged a glance, and each read a helpless, wry smile in the other's eyes. Feng Xiaoxiao and Shen Yushu really were a match for each other — a day without a few rounds of bickering simply wasn't a happy day.

But they were used to it by now, so it hardly mattered. Neither of them meant any harm — it was all a contest of words, and neither would ever truly hurt the other.

After a hearty meal of grilled seafood, Wei Zhao put out the fire, gathered up the food waste they had produced, and packed it into a bag to take away with them when they left. This was not a public beach — no one came to collect the trash, and to leave it lying about would clearly be damaging to the environment.

As planned beforehand, Wei Zhao and Feng Xiaoxiao shared one tent, while Gu Mengyao, Shen Yushu, and Tang Zhi took the other.

The two tents were neither far apart nor close together, but on the silent seashore, if Wei Zhao and Feng Xiaoxiao truly did anything, there was still a very real chance the other tent would hear.

After dinner, Gu Mengyao and Tang Zhi dragged Shen Yushu back to their tent, leaving only Wei Zhao and Feng Xiaoxiao.

"Shall we go back too?" The atmosphere was somewhat ambiguous and awkward. Wei Zhao hesitated a moment before asking.

"Mm..." Feng Xiaoxiao nodded, face flushed. Now that the moment had arrived, she felt a little faint-hearted again! Tonight — was that legendary thing really going to happen?

At the thought, Feng Xiaoxiao felt both a flicker of anticipation and a surge of shyness.

Now that she had decided to be with Wei Zhao, Feng Xiaoxiao's heart had naturally cast him as her first man, her last man — the only man of her life!

Feng Xiaoxiao's circumstances allowed her no hesitation, no room to deliberate. Once she had made her choice, she had to see it through. Others might have the luxury of regret and breakup, but Feng Xiaoxiao had no time! In her mother's family, not a single person had ever escaped the curse of fate — generation after generation, back through all their ancestors — and Feng Xiaoxiao held out no hope that she herself would be spared.

So when it came to choosing a partner, she had to be careful beyond careful. Once chosen, there could be no changing her mind!

Even so, alone with Wei Zhao inside the tent, a certain reserve still lingered in Feng Xiaoxiao's heart.

For all that she usually seemed so bold, when it came to this sort of thing, most girls turned hesitant and sheepish.

"What's wrong with you?" Wei Zhao had noticed something off about Feng Xiaoxiao as well. At this moment she was twisting and fidgeting along beside him like a put-upon child — quite unlike the Feng Xiaoxiao he knew.

"N-nothing..." Deep down, Feng Xiaoxiao was actually struggling with herself.

She kept asking herself: did she really like Wei Zhao? Was she with him because she wanted revenge, or had she truly fallen in love with him?

Originally, Feng Xiaoxiao had not been tangled up in so many doubts. To her mind, whether she was scheming against Wei Zhao or loving him made no difference — once she slept with him, he would care about her all the more, and when she died, he would grieve all the deeper!

But now, with the moment upon her, Feng Xiaoxiao could not help but hesitate. For every girl, after all, the first time is precious, and Feng Xiaoxiao's earlier notions had been notions alone; actually going through with it was another matter entirely.

"Heh... what, you think I'm going to eat you alive?" Seeing the awkwardness in the air, Wei Zhao cracked a joke.

But the speaker meant nothing by it while the listener took it to heart. Wei Zhao's remark was an ordinary joke with no double meaning whatsoever, yet once it reached Feng Xiaoxiao's ears it was loaded with innuendo.

Generally speaking, "I'll eat you up" is nothing much in itself, but its extended meaning is rather suggestive.

If one insists on parsing its precise interpretations, they can be divided into three kinds.

The first tends to occur between lovers: the man looks at the woman's ravishing, luscious appearance and wants to push her down onto the bed, but cannot say so outright, and so he tells her obliquely, I want to eat you up.

Or else the woman, stirred to the depths of her passion, wants to give herself to her boyfriend but is too shy to say so plainly, and so she says, eat me up.

"I... I..." Feng Xiaoxiao did not know what to say.

Seeing her expression, Wei Zhao was briefly taken aback, and only then did he realize that his words had probably been misunderstood. But heaven and earth be his witness, that had truly not been what he meant! Wei Zhao had only been making an offhand joke, meaning, I am no great tiger, so what are you afraid I will eat you for?

But evidently Feng Xiaoxiao had taken it the wrong way, and now that he wanted to explain, he could not make it clear at all. He could only give an embarrassed smile: "I was only joking. Come on, the sea breeze is strong out here, let's go back into the tent."
