Chapter 688 — Time Bomb
"How do you figure that? Even if she does know Guan Xin, she can't be glued to her all day long, can she? Just keep out of her way and that's that," Kang Jingming said, somewhat puzzled.
"It's not that simple as keeping out of her way, Ming *shao*. Think about it — what if Xiaofen's mouth runs off and spills everything about what went on between you two? Do you think Guan Xin would still have a good impression of you? What chance would you have left then?" Wang Shubin was every inch the schemer; he considered a problem from every angle.
Wang Shubin's words instantly knitted Kang Jingming's brows together. He was right. Xiaofen at Guan Xin's side was like a time bomb — one day, who knew when, it would go off with a "bang" and blow him to bloody shreds!
"So then, this Xiaofen really is a great big headache!" Kang Jingming now hated Xiaofen with a passion. How could one person stir up so much trouble? Nothing had gone right since he'd run into her again — the Kang family had been in the doldrums for a while now, and his pursuit of Guan Xin was central to the family's revival. He absolutely could not let Xiaofen ruin it! At that thought, a vicious glint flashed through Kang Jingming's eyes. "Shall we find a chance to do away with her?"
On the surface Kang Jingming looked like nothing but a pleasure-seeking young wastrel, but his heart was rotten through and through. Murder and arson were hardly new to him — he didn't so much as blink. Back in middle school he'd already dared to conspire to kill Xiaofen; he was even worse now.
"I'm all for it. We didn't manage to kill her last time — she's lucky to be alive. And now instead of staying home like a good little lunatic, she dares to come out and strut around. I say she's asking for death!" Zhu Xiaozhang was a ruthless sort himself and seconded Kang Jingming's proposal outright.
"I say we forget it!" Wang Shubin, however, was hesitant. "Getting rid of her is not a good idea."
"Wang Shubin, when did you turn coward? Weren't you the one who found the car when we planned to run Xiaofen down back then?" Zhu Xiaozhang shot him a puzzled look. "Don't tell me you're getting more spineless the older you get?"
"Xiaozhang, hear Wang Shubin out!" Kang Jingming still set great store by Wang Shubin's advice — the man had a decent head on his shoulders, and if he said this, he surely had his reasons.
"Ming *shao*, that friend of Kang Xiaofeng's, the one called Wei Zhao — he's a fucking maniac, a complete and total psychopath!" Here Wang Shubin grew a little timid. "We all know about Tang Zhi getting hurt by Zhao Qibing, don't we? At Zhao Qibing's completion ceremony that day, Wei Zhao tore Qibing Tower down with his bare hands and broke Zhao Qibing's legs! Holy shit — with a man like that, the less we provoke him the better!"
"But Xiaofen isn't Tang Zhi. Would Wei Zhao even bother with a thing like this?" Zhu Xiaozhang was scared too, but he still argued back.
"Right now Xiaofen is Kang Xiaofeng's girlfriend. If we kill her and it comes out, and Kang Xiaofeng goes begging Wei Zhao to avenge her — better safe than sorry. If Wei Zhao comes, we're all done for!" Wang Shubin shook his head.
"That does make sense!" Kang Jingming might be wicked, but he was also a coward who feared death. Hearing that Wei Zhao might come for revenge promptly snuffed out any thought of killing Xiaofen. With a maniac like that, the less provoked the better!
How on earth was Wei Zhao still alive, anyway? Zhao Qibing seemed to have plenty of power behind him — why didn't he go after Wei Zhao?
"So, Ming *shao*, we need to sit down and carefully work out a plan — how to settle this trouble once and for all!" Wang Shubin said.
"Then what am I supposed to do about my injection now?" Kang Jingming suddenly thought of a very serious problem. Seeing Xiaofen just now, he had nearly forgotten that he was still down with a cold.
"For now we'll have to find another nurse. Guan Xin is definitely out of the question..." Wang Shubin said, somewhat helplessly.
"My God, so I got sick for nothing?" Kang Jingming nearly keeled over on the spot. He had endured such agony, nearly croaked from it, and only just managed to catch a cold — and now he couldn't even go to Guan Xin for his injection!
"Ming *shao*, look at it this way — if we were in the middle of getting your injection from Guan Xin and Xiaofen showed up, wouldn't we be exposed on the spot?" Wang Shubin consoled him. "Seen that way, this is actually a blessing in disguise!"
"Now that you mention it, I suppose you're right?" Kang Jingming thought it over carefully, and so it was. He ought to be glad! If Guan Xin hadn't refused and had given him the injection outright, wouldn't he have been exposed in an instant?
At that thought, Kang Jingming cheered up again. It seemed even Heaven was on his side in his pursuit of Guan Xin!
Accompanied by Wang Shubin and Zhu Xiaozhang, Kang Jingming arrived at a general surgery treatment room and handed the doctor's orders to a nurse who looked young and pretty. Kang Jingming thought that even if Guan Xin couldn't give him his injection, finding a prettier young girl wasn't bad either!
Big eyes, a melon-seed face, skin glowing with a dewy luster — Kang Jingming was drooling at the sight. It was outright uniform seduction! Such a pretty little thing, wasting her days as a nurse here! Kang Jingming's mind began to stir. He had bedded plenty of girls over the years, but few of them top-tier. Xiaofen counted as premium goods, and if she hadn't been so hopelessly devoted and so controlling, wanting to marry him, Kang Jingming wouldn't have dumped her so quickly.
But the nurse before him was, in Kang Jingming's eyes, absolutely top-tier — far superior to Xiaofen! She wasn't all that tall, but just right; the key was her figure, which even the white coat couldn't conceal — those delicate curves. Kang Jingming's old ailment flared up again!
Only, at the thought that his main mission now was to woo Guan Xin, Kang Jingming's spirits deflated again, and he had no choice but to give up on this pretty nurse. Still, Guan Xin was top-tier too, so it wasn't too much of a loss!
Just after Kang Jingming handed the doctor's orders to the pretty young nurse, she turned and passed them to a burly, tough-looking older woman. "Nurse Wang, we've got a patient!"
"Oh, all right!" The tough older woman called Nurse Wang took the orders and glanced at Kang Jingming. "A cold, is it? We'll do an allergy test first, then an intramuscular injection. If there's no reaction, you can have an IV drip."
"Huh? You're going to stick me?" Kang Jingming watched the tough older woman get ready to give him the needle and promptly grew anxious. He had picked out a pretty young nurse, so how had he ended up with a tough older woman instead?
"What, you want to pick and choose?" The tough older woman gave Kang Jingming an impatient look. She was the deputy head nurse here, more than experienced at giving injections — plenty of children came looking for her specifically to get their shots. And now this young man was turning up his nose at her?
