Chapter 581 — Wei Zhao's Anger
Tang Zhi was not sure. After all, when Wei Zhao first approached her, it must have been because she was beautiful, right?
"Heh..." Wei Zhao suddenly gave a little laugh.
"You... what are you laughing at? Are you laughing at me?" Tang Zhi glared at Wei Zhao in annoyance.
"So my face is ruined. Ruined is ruined." Wei Zhao shrugged.
"Then, what I'm asking is, do you still want me?" Tang Zhi's gaze was fixed dead on Wei Zhao.
"Of course I want you. Why wouldn't I?" Wei Zhao nodded.
"Uh..." Tang Zhi found herself at a loss for words. What did Wei Zhao mean by that?
Just then, Fat Lai entered the sickroom, panting for breath. It was hard on him, really—all that fat, and running so fast.
"Boss, I'm here!" Fat Lai held up two boxes and trotted over to Wei Zhao, but when he lowered his head, he caught sight of Tang Zhi on the hospital bed and was greatly startled. "Sister-in-law, what happened to you? How did you get hurt?"
That was exactly what Wei Zhao wanted to know, but he had not yet had the chance to ask. He had only just cleared up the misunderstanding with Tang Zhi, and now that Fat Lai had delivered the medicine, Wei Zhao naturally had to treat Tang Zhi first. He did not want her face to be truly ruined.
"We'll talk about that later." Wei Zhao took the boxes from Fat Lai's hands, then said to Tang Zhi, "Tang Zhi, let me apply some medicine for you."
"Oh..." Tang Zhi nodded without a second thought. Her whole being was steeped in sweetness and joy, and she knew very well that Wei Zhao would never harm her, so whatever he wanted to do, she would naturally cooperate.
Wei Zhao reached out and helped Tang Zhi up, then began to unwrap the bandages on her head—which gave Mother Tang and Liu Xinlan quite a fright!
"Um... Wei Zhao, what are you doing?" Mother Tang had no idea what he was about when she saw him unwrapping the bandages on her daughter's head.
"Treating the wound." Wei Zhao answered without pausing the movements of his hands. He swiftly unwound the gauze, and perhaps it tugged at the wound on Tang Zhi's head, for her body gave a slight tremble and she could not help but frown.
On Tang Zhi's forehead was a shocking wound. Though it had already been stitched, it was still hideous and terrifying! A pang struck Wei Zhao's heart. How could this girl be so careless? Thank goodness he had the trauma medicine; otherwise, would her face not have been truly ruined?
"Don't be afraid. The pain will be gone in a moment." Wei Zhao opened the box of painkiller and spread it evenly over Tang Zhi's forehead. This painkiller worked wonders whether taken orally or applied externally.
Mother Tang was somewhat afraid. She did not know what Wei Zhao was going to do, but she did not dare speak up to stop him, because she felt that Wei Zhao would not harm her daughter! If Wei Zhao did not truly like her daughter, then now that her daughter was in such a state, he could simply have ignored her—so why go to all this trouble?
Liu Xinlan, on the other hand, was much calmer. When little Fen had been taken to the hospital, Wei Zhao's miraculous acupuncture had left a deep impression on Liu Xinlan, and afterward Tang Zhi had also said that Wei Zhao understood medicine. So Liu Xinlan felt certain that Wei Zhao was treating Tang Zhi.
Once the painkiller was applied to her forehead, Tang Zhi was astonished to find that her forehead no longer hurt at all. How could that be? She could not help but stare at Wei Zhao in shock, finding it almost unbelievable!
Wei Zhao quickly removed the stitches from Tang Zhi's forehead. The wound split open and blood began to flow, but Wei Zhao was in no hurry. Instead, he applied the trauma medicine step by step, and very soon the bleeding stopped.
Having done all this with practiced ease, Wei Zhao wrapped the gauze back around Tang Zhi's forehead, then smiled at her and said, "There. Your face won't be ruined."
For that female assassin Yang Qiqi last time, or for himself, Wei Zhao had been too lazy to use the painkiller, because such small wounds were nothing—the trauma medicine could simply be applied directly. But Tang Zhi was different. She had not undergone professional training, and this kind of pain was hard to endure.
"Huh? It won't be?" Hearing Wei Zhao's words, Tang Zhi was both startled and delighted, and she found it somewhat unbelievable.
"It won't be." Wei Zhao nodded. "This is the first product from my company. It's called trauma medicine, and it has effects similar to Divine Doctor Kang's golden wound medicine!"
Mother Tang had not been entirely convinced that her daughter would escape disfigurement, but hearing Wei Zhao say so, she believed it. The fame of Divine Physician Kang's wound medicine resounded like thunder in the ears, yet it was not a product ordinary folk like them could buy. That miraculous medicine, supplied in such limited quantities, was nearly impossible to obtain even through connections. Word had it that once applied, the wound not only healed swiftly but left no scar at all, which was wondrous beyond belief.
"Heh heh..." The weight on Tang Zhi's heart finally lifted, and she could not help liking Wei Zhao all the more. It was wonderful being his girlfriend; now she would not be disfigured after all...
"If the wound starts to ache, just take a small sip of this painkiller." Wei Zhao handed the painkiller to Mother Tang. "By morning, the bandages can basically come off."
"So soon!" Mother Tang marveled, and her mind began to stir again. "Xiao Yi, your Uncle Tang had both his legs broken too. Do you know of any way to help him recover quickly?"
"Uncle Tang is injured as well?" Wei Zhao was taken aback, and his expression turned grave. Earlier, he had assumed Tang Zhi's injury was an accident, so though it pained him, he had not thought much more about it. But now, hearing from Mother Tang that Tang Jucheng was injured too, suspicion rose in Wei Zhao's mind. Especially since Mother Tang said he had been struck down. Could something more be going on here? "What exactly happened? How did both Tang Zhi and Uncle Tang get hurt?"
"Well... the truth of the matter is this..." Mother Tang had no thought of asking Wei Zhao to stand up for them. After all, in her eyes those people were little better than gangsters, acting without the slightest scruple, and they were not the sort ordinary folk could afford to provoke.
The reason she told Wei Zhao was also because their house had collapsed, and she still hoped he might help them resolve that. Otherwise, where would they live from now on?
Mother Tang recounted the course of events to Wei Zhao. From him, she dared not conceal anything, and she even admitted that out of greed for money she had earlier gone to demand the shopfront. After all, without a cause, how could there have been any of what followed?
Hearing Mother Tang's account, Wei Zhao's face had darkened to something fearsome. Fury had already blazed up in his heart. That these people dared to treat Tang Zhi this way had crossed Wei Zhao's bottom line. At this moment Wei Zhao was utterly enraged, his wrath vast and terrible. Few soldiers, was it? Very well!
"Fat Lai, just who is this Zhao Qibing?" Wei Zhao turned and looked at Fat Lai, asking mildly. His voice was indeed quite calm, yet Fat Lai caught the ruthlessness in Wei Zhao's eyes.
