Chapter 582 — The Completion Ceremony

The Blossom Guardian

"What's this 'hidden family' business?" Wei Zhao seemed not to have taken Fatty Lai's earlier words to heart.

"The hidden families are mysterious clans that stand above the Four Great Families and the Five Minor Families. No one knows their names — only the Yu family, which is said to be a branch of one of them, or rather, the Yu family is itself an offshoot of a hidden family living out in the open!" Fatty Lai said with a grave expression. "But the hidden families are stronger than all the rest. They simply seldom involve themselves in the affairs of the mundane world!"

"Oh." Wei Zhao nodded, his face blank. "We don't need to talk about that. Just tell me where Zhao Qibing is."

Fatty Lai was startled for a moment, then he knew Wei Zhao had made up his mind to move against Zhao Qibing. Helplessly, he said, "Zhao Qibing founded Qibing Real Estate in Songshan City. The Qibing Tower was just completed today, and tonight Zhao Qibing is holding a completion ceremony at the Qibing Restaurant in front of the tower. He's invited a great many of Songshan's elite, and I received an invitation too."

"Completed?" Wei Zhao sneered. "Fatty Lai, go find some excavators and bulldozers right now. We're going to pay this 'Young Master Bing' a visit."

Wei Zhao's tone was filled with an incontrovertible certainty, and so Fatty Lai knew that no matter what background Zhao Qibing had, nothing could stop the boss's fury now! But Fatty Lai was also resolute: since the boss wanted to move against Zhao Qibing, then as his underling, he would naturally be first in the charge! He had already decided to follow Wei Zhao — so who cared about Zhao Qibing or hidden families?

"Yes, boss!" Fatty Lai had come from real estate in the first place, so he had engineering crews under him. Finding a few bulldozers and excavators was no difficult matter.

When Tang Zhi heard Wei Zhao's words, however, she was alarmed. "Wei Zhao, what are you going to do? Don't stir up trouble..."

"Let's go see Uncle Tang first." Wei Zhao did not answer her. He understood her worry, but his mind was made up. Zhao Qibing had dared to touch Tang Zhi — how could Wei Zhao possibly let him off easily?

Seeing that Wei Zhao did not answer, Tang Zhi knew he meant to vent her anger for her, but she feared he was no match for those people — especially after the terrifying things Fatty Lai had just said, about Four Great Families and Five Minor Families, which sounded frightening enough on their own! And that Zhao Qibing was connected to hidden families even more powerful than those. How could Tang Zhi not be nervous? Now that her face could still be saved, she naturally wanted to live peacefully with Wei Zhao, and did not want him courting more trouble.

"Wei Zhao..." Tang Zhi was moved, but more than that, she was afraid something would happen to him. If something happened to Wei Zhao, what would become of her?

"Heh..." Wei Zhao gave a faint, cold laugh. "Before he touched you, he should have considered the consequences."

"You... don't kill anyone..." Tang Zhi knew Wei Zhao was formidable, and that when he struck out in anger he would not count the cost. She was afraid he would bring disaster on himself — she would rather he did not stand up for her at all!

"Kill..." Wei Zhao was slightly taken aback. In truth, he had already put Young Master Bing on his blacklist a moment ago. But Tang Zhi's words had reminded him: if this were the old him, Zhao Qibing would be no more than a little shrimp in his eyes, someone he could crush with a wave of his hand.

And after crushing him, there would be no consequences to speak of — but today, in full public view, killing Zhao Qibing would be somewhat difficult. Still, the death penalty could be waived while the living punishment could not be evaded. There were many ways to turn a man into a living dead. Wei Zhao had no need to kill Zhao Qibing and end up wanted by the police.

"I won't kill him today." As Wei Zhao said this, he had already written Zhao Qibing off as a dead man. Even if he did not die today, he would die eventually. But Wei Zhao would not say such things to Tang Zhi. Instead he said, "Let's see Uncle Tang first."

Tang Zhi sighed. Though she had not caught the double meaning in his words, she knew that Wei Zhao would probably not let Zhao Qibing off lightly today. The only question was whether it would bring them great trouble.

Mother Tang accompanied Wei Zhao to Tang Jucheng's ward. Tang's father knew that his daughter and Wei Zhao had broken up, and he was rather surprised to see Wei Zhao arrive. But when he saw that Wei Zhao still treated him with the same respect as before, Tang Jucheng found it strange.

Yet since Mother Tang was present, Tang Jucheng did not feel free to ask too much. He decided to get the details of the whole business later.

Wei Zhao examined Tang Jucheng's condition. It was only a broken bone, now set, with nothing serious about it. Still, Wei Zhao swiftly wrote out a prescription and gave it to Mother Tang: "Have this filled — decoct and take it morning and evening, one dose a day, and he'll recover in a month. As for the nerve damage, that can't be dealt with yet. I'll have to fetch the medicine from my hometown."

"All right, all right!" Mother Tang carefully took the prescription, brimming with gratitude toward Wei Zhao. She had witnessed the miracle of her daughter's pain vanishing in an instant, and so she now trusted Wei Zhao without reservation.

If Wei Zhao said it could be cured, then it could certainly be cured.

After taking leave of Mother Tang and Tang Zhi, Wei Zhao walked out of the hospital, his face terrifyingly dark. He did not know what on earth this hidden family was supposed to be, but Wei Zhao had never feared anyone. Hidden family or not — he would deal with Zhao Qibing first!

"Boss, the bulldozers and excavators are ready, and I've also contacted a demolition crew." Fatty Lai had guessed what Wei Zhao intended to do.

Wei Zhao nodded. "That completion ceremony — when does it start?"

"Six o'clock in the evening," said Fatty Lai.

"Oh, so it's already started. Let's go, then," Wei Zhao said, glancing at the time on his phone.

Fatty Lai left his own car behind and climbed into Wei Zhao's beat-up van as well; he would have to navigate. As for the excavators, bulldozers, and demolition crew, Fatty Lai had phoned ahead long ago and told them to stand by near the Qibing Building.

Zhao Qibing had long since cast the morning's unpleasantness to the back of his mind. Apart from a faint regret — a girl as beautiful as a fairy, her face ruined, no longer of any interest to him — he had no other thoughts on the matter at all.

To his mind, the stubborn rabble of the shantytown were no different from ants; crushing them was a trifling matter. Right now he had more important things to do — today was a red-letter day for Qibing Real Estate.

Zhao Qibing's origins were deeply mysterious, yet among the people of consequence in Songshan City, it was dimly understood that a powerful family stood behind him. Li Chihua, the local kingpin, was nothing but his running dog, and so a great many people showed up out of courtesy for Zhao Qibing's completion ceremony.
