Chapter 559 — You'd Better Remember This

The Blossom Guardian

A short while later, Zhong Yongliang was shoved onto the operating table. He was terrified beyond words and wanted to scream, wanted to resist, but he could not. He was fully conscious; it was his body that refused to obey his mind.

"Brother Wen, everything is ready! You can make the cut!" the tattooed man said respectfully to An Liwen.

An Liwen entered the operating room carrying a scalpel. Looking down at Zhong Yongliang on the table, a trace of cold cruelty flickered in his eyes. In Songshan City, no one dared to snatch a woman from him. Without a taste of what he was made of, the man would never learn his place.

"How do I cut?" An Liwen strode over with the bearing of a conquering general, raising the scalpel and preparing to strike.

Zhong Yongliang's eyes brimmed with panic. He had no idea what this man meant to do; seeing him holding a scalpel, did he mean to take his life? How on earth had he provoked such a ruthless creature? He tried to call for help, but could not. He tried to close his eyes, but even his eyelids would not obey him.

"Brother Wen, a single cut just here will do it—about this long..." said a doctor wearing a mask, explaining the procedure to An Liwen.

"I understand!" An Liwen nodded. As far as he was concerned, a larger wound made no difference; it merely meant a few more stitches. As for whether Zhong Yongliang suffered, the more the better.

The doctor too was a killer who did not bat an eye. He was not the least bit nervous, nor did he worry that An Liwen might butcher the man outright. After all, not ten but eight people had already died on this operating table.

"Damn you! You had better remember this! There are some people you do not touch. If you dare lay a hand on Gu Mengyao again, I will take your life!" An Liwen glared viciously at Zhong Yongliang. "This time I am cutting out one of your kidneys as a lesson. Next time, I will cut off your head!"

Only then did Zhong Yongliang realize the man before him was taking revenge for Gu Mengyao. But when had Gu Mengyao come to know such a ruthless man? Had Gu Pengzhan sent him?

Zhong Yongliang wanted to scream, "You wouldn't dare!"—but that was only his fantasy. He could not utter a single word.

"Swish..." An Liwen paid Zhong Yongliang no attention and had no interest in hearing any explanation. He simply drew a long gash across Zhong Yongliang's body with the scalpel.

The pain twisted Zhong Yongliang's face into violent spasms, yet there was nothing he could do.

"Let this be a lesson you never forget! If you dare set your mind on Gu Mengyao again, next time it will not be so simple!" With that, An Liwen tossed the scalpel aside and turned to walk out of the operating room.

He would have liked to give Zhong Yongliang a few more slashes, but he was afraid of damaging the kidney. A single kidney could fetch several hundred thousand—and this was money after all!

The surgery without anesthesia had already wracked Zhong Yongliang with unbearable pain. If the kidney were to be cut out without anesthesia too, Zhong Yongliang would surely die. After An Liwen left, the doctor administered anesthetic, and soon Zhong Yongliang knew nothing at all.

The doctor's hands moved with remarkable deftness. He cut out one of Zhong Yongliang's kidneys outright, then had the tattooed man dump him at the entrance of the First People's Hospital, after which they drove away without a backward glance.

Had he not feared blowing the matter up, An Liwen would have simply wanted to finish Zhong Yongliang off.

Zhong Fabai received the call from the hospital. Hearing that his son had had a kidney cut out, he flew into a towering rage and rushed to the hospital. His son was already awake in a hospital bed. Zhong Fabai was both shocked and furious. In Songshan City, someone had dared to lay hands on his son—were they tired of living?

Seeing his father arrive, Zhong Yongliang burst into loud wailing. To have a kidney cut out for no reason at all was a calamity fallen from a clear sky. He knew well that once a kidney was removed, a person's health would suffer, and it was uncertain whether he could even be a normal man in the future. He felt utterly wronged! Most importantly, he did not even know who had done it!

"Dad, you have to get revenge for me! Out of nowhere I have lost a kidney—how unlucky can I be..." Zhong Yongliang sobbed.

"Who did this? Damn it, if I find out, I will wipe out his whole family!" Zhong Fabai was also burning with fury. Zhong Yongliang was his only son—how could he not be enraged?

"I don't know either. They pushed me straight onto the operating table, gave me anesthetic, and then cut out my kidney..." Zhong Yongliang said through his tears. "But the man who cut me said it was because of Gu Mengyao, and told me to stay away from her from now on..."

"Oh? Gu Mengyao?" Zhong Fabai was startled. "Could it be Gu Pengzhan's doing? No, that doesn't make sense—even if you were courting his daughter, he would not go so far as to cut out a kidney?"

"I am sure it must be him, or at least that he is involved! Before, I..." Zhong Yongliang had meant to keep it hidden, but after a moment's hesitation, he told his father what he had done before...

Zhong Fabai's face turned ugly at once. Zhong Yongliang was far too reckless, wasn't he? Daring to kidnap Gu Mengyao? Daring to go to Gu Pengzhan and threaten him? At first, when Zhong Fabai had heard it was Gu Pengzhan's doing, he had wanted to seek revenge on Gu Pengzhan; but now, hearing Zhong Yongliang's explanation, he fell silent again.

After all, in this matter it was he who had been in the wrong first, so retaliation was only natural. It was just that the method of retaliation was a little too vicious! If they had simply beaten him up and broken his legs, that would have been one thing, but they had cut out one of his kidneys!

Though he had only just established ties with Young Master Bing these past few days, Zhong Fabai knew that on his own strength alone he was no match for Gu Pengzhan! Now there was nothing for it but to talk things over with Li Cihua and see whether he might help him; after all, he worked for Li Cihua, and if his son had had a kidney cut out, Li Cihua could hardly just sit by and ask no questions.

So Zhong Fabai left Zhong Yongliang at the hospital. To set his son's mind at ease, he instructed him to focus on his treatment, saying that missing a kidney was nothing much, that at least he wouldn't die.

Zhong Yongliang of course knew that missing a kidney wouldn't kill him, but he couldn't lose one for nothing, could he? His health would surely be far worse than before; he wouldn't even have the stamina to chase girls. A wave of sorrow washed over Zhong Yongliang. But now that things had come to this, sorrow was of no use; getting revenge quickly was the real business.

Zhong Fabai and Li Cihua's relationship was in its honeymoon phase just then, so when Zhong Fabai called saying he wanted to meet, Li Cihua gladly agreed, and they set the place at the Geliyun Bar.

"Brother Zhong, it's barely morning and you've come looking for me all of a sudden?" That Li Cihua rose to greet him when Zhong Fabai arrived at the bar was already giving Zhong Fabai plenty of face.

Zhong Fabai was taken aback; it was already noon, so how was it still barely morning? But then he reflected that Li Cihua ran a bar and generally only went to bed in the small hours, so calling this morning was not far off the mark.
