Chapter 558 — The Revenge Is Here
"Brother An, have a listen to this recording first." Wei Zhao handed him the voice recorder in his hand.
An Liwen hurriedly took the recorder and pressed play, listening closely. But before he had heard more than a few sentences, his expression turned ugly, and right there in front of Wei Zhao, he burst out cursing: "Motherfucker! Which little bastard is this? Daring to put horns on me—I'll kill him!"
"Heh, Brother An, rest easy. I already got Yaoyao out. He never got his way; he only meant to use Uncle Chu as leverage..." Wei Zhao then laid out for An Liwen the analysis he had made at the time.
He had to set An Liwen's mind at ease. Otherwise, if An Liwen thought Gu Mengyao was damaged goods and gave up on her, what then? This way, with his confidence restored, he would be earnest in dealing with Gu Mengyao's rival.
"Brother Wei Zhao, you were truly just in time! Words cannot express my gratitude—this time it is all thanks to you. Without you, the consequences would have been unthinkable. Rest assured, I will not treat you shabbily!" An Liwen said, patting Wei Zhao on the shoulder excitedly. By now he had made certain: ever since Wei Zhao took his payment last time, there had been no ill feeling between them, and Wei Zhao was genuinely helping him. Nor was An Liwen to be blamed for thinking so. After all, Wei Zhao was merely Gu Mengyao's bodyguard, and he had a girlfriend of his own, with no conflict of interest whatsoever with An Liwen; what was more, An Liwen had paid him handsomely, so why would Wei Zhao not help him wholeheartedly?
"Ah, but Brother An, Gu Mengyao's rival really must be taught a lesson sooner rather than later. Next time I cannot promise we will be this lucky," Wei Zhao warned.
"You needn't tell me that—I mean to do him in. Daring to lay hands on Yaoyao, he must be tired of living!" An Liwen gave a cold laugh. "What is his name? Tell me, and I will finish him tomorrow!"
"This man is called Zhong Yongliang. I have a photo of him here; I will send it to you by phone." As he spoke, Wei Zhao sent the photo of Zhong Yongliang he had prepared long ago to An Liwen over Bluetooth.
"Brother Wei Zhao, I had meant to treat you to a meal, but with this business having happened, you ought to stay at the villa and keep Yaoyao well protected!" An Liwen said. "I have to go and prepare to teach this Zhong Yongliang a lesson, so I will head back today. Another day I will certainly treat you!"
"A meal is not necessary. As for the activity expenses, why don't you see whether..." Wei Zhao smiled slightly and looked at An Liwen.
"No problem!" An Liwen was far more forthcoming than last time. After all, this time Wei Zhao had truly done something for him, and the money was really not spent in vain! So An Liwen said with great readiness: "Tomorrow I will wire you another million!"
"Heh... then thank you, Brother An." Wei Zhao smiled and did not refuse. Though a million meant little to him, as much as he could wring out of An Liwen, so much the better—who ever complains of having too much money?
For the first time ever, Gu Pengzhan stayed overnight at the villa, and the next day Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu stayed home to rest properly, and did not go to school. In truth, Wei Zhao also meant to let them reappear only after An Liwen had dealt with Zhong Yongliang.
As usual, Zhong Yongliang took a taxi to the school by himself. Though he showed nothing on the surface, he was somewhat anxious inside. Why had Gu Pengzhan still not sent him any word after two days? Whether he agreed or not, he ought at least to give a reply, ought he not?
Having gotten out of the taxi, Zhong Yongliang was just about to head into the school when four burly men blocked his way. One of them asked, "You are Zhong Yongliang, right?"
"You... do you have some business with me?" Zhong Yongliang jumped in fright, not knowing what these four men wanted with him, though plainly it boded no good, so instinctively he wanted to flee.
But the four men had already surrounded him front and back, left and right, leaving him no way to escape. The burly man who had spoken carefully compared him against the photo in his hand, then nodded to the others. Without a word, they seized Zhong Yongliang and dragged him into a minivan parked not far away.
An Liwen sat in the minivan's front passenger seat. Only when he saw Zhong Yongliang caught did he speak viciously: "Daring to set your sights on Gu Mengyao—if I do not deal with him, he will never learn his place! Cut out your kidney and see whether you strut about after that!"
Behind a garbage processing station in the western suburbs of Songshan City, the four burly men shoved Zhong Yongliang into a basement. The basement reeked of disinfectant, which made Zhong Yongliang sneeze in spite of himself.
"Who are you people? What do you want with me? Do you know who my father is? He is Zhong Fabai! If you know what is good for you, let me go at once, or you will be sorry!" Zhong Yongliang shouted, fierce in word but faint at heart.
"Damn you! What are you yelling for? You want to die, is that it?" A tattooed man came over and slapped Zhong Yongliang across the face. "Still raising a racket now that you are here—you must be tired of living!"
"You... you..." Zhong Yongliang was shocked and furious, yet did not dare provoke the tattooed man too far. The fellow looked like a gangster—and though his own father was a gangster too, right now he was a tiger fallen on the flat plain, bullied by dogs. Who knew whether these men meant to take his life?
"Take him inside first and give him a checkup," the tattooed man said, waving a hand at the four burly men, who led Zhong Yongliang into a room.
The tattooed man turned and went into another room, where An Liwen sat, gloomily toying with a sharp scalpel.
"Brother Wen, are you going to do it yourself?" the tattooed man asked respectfully.
"Yeah. I'll make the first cut. Give him a paralytic that keeps him conscious but unable to move. I want him to remember this lesson, and see whether he ever dares touch my woman again!" An Liwen said coldly.
"Brother Wen, just now he said his father's name was Zhong Fabai..." the tattooed man said cautiously.
"Zhong Fabai? What does he do?" An Liwen asked.
"He's a big local thug in this city. He's got an entertainment complex and a hotel under him..." the tattooed man began to explain Zhong Fabai's background.
"What kind of mess is this? Why even bring up a character like that?" Hearing that the man was merely a thug, An Liwen immediately lost interest and waved his hand impatiently. "Go get it done."
"Yes!" Seeing that An Liwen did not care at all about Zhong Fabai's background, the tattooed man thought better of saying anything more and turned to go make the arrangements.
After being injected with a shot of some unknown drug, Zhong Yongliang felt every ounce of strength drain from his body, and he collapsed straight onto the bed... RO
