Chapter 304 — This Kid Is a Bit Annoying

The Blossom Guardian

Still, if Wei Zhao really was as miraculous as Guan Xuewen claimed, it was only natural for a divine physician to put on airs. Divine physicians were the sort everyone scrambled to curry favor with, so it made sense that he would be cool toward him.

"Uncle, don't let him fool you! I know this kid — what divine physician?" Wu Chengtian was instantly furious to see his uncle treating Wei Zhao with such respect. "He's just Sun Jingyan's boyfriend, a little swindler!"

Wu Chengtian found it hard to connect the title of divine physician with Wei Zhao at all. However you looked at the kid, he couldn't possibly be any kind of miracle doctor. And he had once probed Sun Jingyan obliquely about what Wei Zhao did for a living. She had tried her hardest to cover it up, but Wu Chengtian had still gleaned one thing: the kid definitely had no proper job — he belonged to the drifting, unemployed sort. Otherwise, given Sun Jingyan's temperament, there was no way she would have resisted bragging to him about her boyfriend's virtues.

If Wei Zhao really were some divine physician, Sun Jingyan would long since have used that to put him down. Why would she hide it and tuck it away? That was precisely why Wu Chengtian dared to lash out so suddenly — because in his eyes, Wei Zhao absolutely could not be a divine physician, and these people had to have been blinded by Wei Zhao's tricks.

Liu Tianyi was stunned. Wu Huiru was stunned. Guan Xuewen was stunned most of all. All three turned to look at Wei Zhao in astonishment.

"Fine. I'm a swindler." To everyone's surprise, Wei Zhao admitted it without so much as a flinch. "Since someone here doesn't want to see me, I'll take my leave, Grandpa Guan. I'll visit you another time."

With that, Wei Zhao rose to his feet, ready to go. What a joke — he owed the Liu family nothing. He had agreed to treat Old Master Liu purely out of respect for Guan Xuewen. Since someone in the family had called him a swindler, Wei Zhao could not be bothered to explain himself.

You call me a swindler? Then I can't be bothered to treat you either. Go find a doctor wherever you like. We'll meet again — or perhaps we won't.

"Ah." Guan Xuewen sighed. He was not the least bit angry at Wei Zhao's reaction, but he did shoot Wu Chengtian a displeased glance. He had no idea what this young man's relationship to Liu Tianyi was, or why he had been brought here to make such a disgraceful scene.

Now look at the mess. Wei Zhao was offended and would not be treating their old master. What were they going to do now?

For that matter, Wu Chengtian was actually several years older than Wei Zhao, and yet in Guan Xuewen's eyes he had become a thoughtless child, while Wei Zhao was his friend despite the years between them — his teacher, even.

Wei Zhao headed straight for the villa's front door, showing no one any face. Guan Xuewen did not stop him. Liu Tianyi, after a moment of shock, grew frantic — he had finally found Wei Zhao after so much trouble, so how could he possibly let him walk away like this?

Forgetting all about appearances, Liu Tianyi hurried forward and caught Wei Zhao by the arm. "Little divine physician, please wait!"

"Wait for what?" Wei Zhao curled his lip. "Someone here says I'm a swindler."

Smack! Liu Tianyi slapped Wu Huiru across the face. True, he was Wu Chengtian's uncle by marriage, but Wu Chengtian was, after all, a Wu — and a promising youngster of the younger generation at that — so it was not fitting for Liu Tianyi to discipline him directly. He could only vent his fury on his wife, herself a Wu. For a man to discipline his own woman was only natural; even if the Wus heard of it, they would have nothing to say. Wu Huiru had married into the Liu family — she was one of them now.

"Look at what your nephew is like! A fine job you've done!" Liu Tianyi roared, beside himself with rage. "An indulgent aunt ruins her nephew — you're the perfect example!"

Wu Huiru was left dazed by Liu Tianyi's sudden slap, but once she collected herself, she realized she truly should never have brought Wu Chengtian along. Offending the little divine physician so that he would not treat Old Master Liu — if the Liu brothers got wind of this, they would likely band together to divorce her, their eldest sister-in-law.

Smack! Wu Huiru slapped Wu Chengtian across the face and snapped, "What nonsense are you spouting? Say one more word and I'll call your uncle right now and have him order you home!"

Having been slapped by his aunt, Wu Chengtian burned with anger but dared not speak. The great clans had many rules, and for an elder to discipline a junior was only proper. So Wu Chengtian hung his head, his resentment gathering entirely upon Wei Zhao. In his mind, all of this was Wei Zhao's doing.

"Little divine physician, you see..." Liu Tianyi had already humbled himself as much as he could, and now he looked at Wei Zhao with something like entreaty in his eyes. Yes — entreaty. To cure his father's illness was his greatest wish.

"Oh, this kid is a bit annoying. I don't want to see him anymore," Wei Zhao said, glancing at Wu Chengtian.

"Huiru, aren't you going to take Chengtian outside?" Liu Tianyi glared at Wu Huiru. Couldn't she read the room? She could see perfectly well that the little divine physician disliked her nephew — why hadn't she made him vanish from the physician's sight at once?

"Oh... right..." Wu Huiru nudged Wu Chengtian. "Xiaotian, let's go outside first..."

Wu Chengtian gave a humph, unconvinced. He shot Wei Zhao a venomous look and mouthed the words "just you wait," then followed Wu Huiru out of Guan Xuewen's villa.

Wei Zhao did not so much as glance at Wu Chengtian directly. Let him say what he liked — plenty of people wanted to teach him a lesson, and to this day not one had succeeded. Of course, the one exception was the old man at home, who could still put him in his place until he had no temper left to lose.

"Little Divine Physician, I've already driven that worthless boy out. Now can you treat my father?" Liu Tianyi asked cautiously, watching Wei Zhao.

"Did I ever say I would treat your father?" Wei Zhao glanced at Liu Tianyi. Had this fellow's head been caught in a door? When exactly had he agreed to treat the man's father?

"That..." Liu Tianyi's expression froze, and he groaned inwardly. True enough, Wei Zhao had never promised to treat his father; he had only said he disliked Wu Chengtian. "Little Divine Physician, I beg you, would you take a look at my father? My nephew gave offense earlier — I apologize to you on his behalf."

It was no small thing to make Liu Tianyi lower himself like this, but he had truly pinned his hopes on Wei Zhao. He had witnessed Wei Zhao's marvels with his own eyes that day, and coupled with Guan Xuewen's high esteem for the young man, Liu Tianyi did not doubt for a moment that Wei Zhao possessed genuine skill.

With anyone else, even a divine physician, Liu Tianyi could never have adopted such a posture. But this youth whom even Doctor Guan Xuewen addressed with respect as an "expert" — Liu Tianyi dared not underestimate him.

Especially given Wei Zhao's temper. Persons of great ability invariably had a temper of their own; that was only natural, and Liu Tianyi understood it well. It only confirmed his conviction that Wei Zhao was a master.

"I've finished looking." Wei Zhao gave a cold, impatient snort. "No need to look again. Even if he's cured, it's pointless — he'll live another ten or eight years at most and then drop dead. Isn't that just a waste of my time and energy?"
