Chapter 274 — One Shot Settles the Outcome

"Right!" Rebecca shouted, then threw every ounce of strength she had into swinging the staff. The fireball formed by her magic did not weigh much, but the churning mana field held the staff as if it were stuck to a lodestone, making it desperately hard to swing. A normal mage would likely have despaired then and there; a frail mage could never push that enormous fireball out, and would only be torn to pieces by the backlash of the severely overloaded spell. But was Rebecca a normal mage?
After one push failed to budge it, Rebecca stopped straining with all her might and switched to the strength that had once let her kill a wolf with three punches during her family trial. With a "Heave-ho!" the gate-sized fireball drifted wobbling toward the battlefield under countless terrified eyes.
Even a dim-witted monster could sense the terrifying power in that fireball. The three mutant monsters, who had meant to destroy the wall with a close-range blow, forcibly withdrew their half-gathered lightning strike the moment they saw it, and then did something ordinary aberrations could never do—
They turned and fled.
Gao Yang could finally be certain: these large mutant individuals were capable of thought.
By now Rebecca's super-duper-ultra-huge fireball had landed on the battlefield. It came down behind the three fleeing mutants. For the first second it merely fell smoothly, melting the ground like a red-hot iron ball dropped on cheese and vaporizing the monsters around it; but one second later, the unstable magical energy inside it finally erupted.
With a deafening roar, a small mushroom cloud rose slowly before the southern wall of Cecil Territory.
After that blow, almost every monster left on the battlefield was annihilated.
Watching the mushroom cloud climb slowly, Rebecca wore a faint, heartfelt smile. It suddenly occurred to her that her 'Way of the Fireball' might be a good path after all.
The great fireball had been conjured; it could protect everyone and bring miracles.
Then the girl who had drained her mental energy with a single huge fireball simply toppled straight over.
On the wall, most people had still not recovered from that earth-shattering explosion.
Gao Yang had already seen Rebecca fall, but a dark shadow beside him shot swiftly up the tower. It was Amber. With Amber there to look after her, he relaxed and turned his eyes back toward the battlefield.
At the edge of the wall not far ahead, a hideous, ugly palm suddenly appeared. Then, under the gaze of many, the last surviving aberration of the battle finally climbed onto the wall.
No one knew how it had survived, but Gao Yang knew it was hacked to death by at least twenty people.
