Chapter 195 — The Intelligence Brought by Tyr

Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2

Tyr flicked her tail impatiently, then stretched out hugely in the water. With a twist of her body she turned her belly upward, closed her eyes, and began to sleep.

Floating belly-up in the water, she slept as though she had suddenly passed away. Thank goodness she had switched to a snake tail; had it been a fish tail, it would truly have been a bit frightening.

Gao Yang left Tyr's room with Amber and the others. Only once they were in the corridor did Hetty break the silence: "Ancestor, what do you make of this... siren who appeared so suddenly?"

"What do you mean, what do I make of her?"

"Sirens are a mysterious and ancient intelligent species. Though there's no proof, the great majority of legends about them are tagged with 'dangerous, eerie, mysterious.' Do you think this siren... is trustworthy?"

Gao Yang rolled his eyes. "Do you think the way she's been acting has anything to do with those three adjectives?"

Hetty: "..."

"Of course I understand your concern," Gao Yang said, changing tack. "You can't judge people by appearances—and the same goes for fish. And sea serpents. But be that as it may, this siren brings knowledge and intelligence I urgently need. About the deep sea, I have a certain obsession. It's hard to explain that obsession to you for now, but it is precisely for that reason that I must keep Tyr here. Besides, I've carefully studied those legends about sirens and found that they almost all come from fishermen and sailors along the coasts of the Typhon Empire and the Silver Empire. And those two groups... to put it bluntly, even if they saw a slightly larger fish out at sea, they'd spin a whole pile of tales about gods and ghosts. There is far too much exaggeration in the legends they left behind. They can't all be disbelieved, and they can't all be believed."

"I understand," Hetty said with a nod. "Since you have thought it through so thoroughly, I have no more doubts."

"Good. But remember, keep a close watch on Tyr's movements—partly out of necessary vigilance and precaution, and partly to keep her from doing anything startling. She comes from the deep sea, after all; her worldview is very likely utterly different from humanity's."

"Yes."

"Also, have the witnesses in the plaza today and the soldiers who kept order been properly briefed?"

"They have," Hetty said with a nod. "The official explanation is that she is an old friend of another race whom you befriended seven hundred years ago, who came to meet you upon hearing the news of your revival. We told Miss Tyr this as well, and she agreed to play along."

"The conveniences that come with being a legendary hero, you mean..." Gao Yun laughed aloud. "Seems like no matter how bizarre or outlandish a thing is, as long as it has anything to do with me, ordinary folk will believe it readily enough."

Amber rolled her eyes. "After all, you can even pull off rising from a lifted coffin lid. What's left that's impossible for you?"

Gao Yang: "..."
