Chapter 130 — The Viscount Who Would Not Die
Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2
Amber was dumbstruck. "Aren't they afraid those cultists will 'bring an end' to them too?!"
Gao Yang only smiled indifferently. "They even dare take orders from the Elemental Sovereigns. What wouldn't they dare?"
Afterward, he searched the rooftop carefully for any traces the cultist had left, but apart from the ring in his hand, he found nothing else.
Everything else really had been blown to bits.
The two of them then returned to the hall where the battle had taken place. The lord of Tansan Town, Viscount Andrew of the Leslie family, was still there where he had been.
In fact, he had no way of going anywhere else at all. Corroded and tormented for so many days by the fallen druids' dark arts, and possessing no extraordinary power of his own—barely gaining a shred of magical ability through potions—this Viscount Andrew was little different from an ordinary man in terms of spell resistance and constitution, and was in fact even weaker than most due to years of excessive drug use. Even now that the dark arts no longer afflicted him, his limp, strengthless limbs were not enough to move him from the spot.
He could only slump in his chair, watching helplessly as a crowd fought and killed and tore apart half his hall, watching helplessly as they left, and watching helplessly as Gao Yang and Amber returned.
The only thing to be thankful for was that the aftermath of the earlier battle had not touched him. This viscount was, to this moment, still whole and intact.
"The cultists have fled," Gao Yang said to Viscount Andrew, making no attempt to hide it. "But he shouldn't be coming back—at least not anytime soon."
The viscount, who had narrowly escaped death, rolled his eyes with effort. He drew several deep breaths, joy and worry both plainly written across his face, but his first words were still a feeble expression of thanks: "Thank you for the rescue... Your Grace, I now feel that befriending you was the single most correct decision I have made in my life... cough, cough... I am starving. Could you give me some food first?"
Gao Yang shook his head and drew a small crystal vial from his breast: "Much as I would like to fill your belly right now, you had best drink a little of this first."
Viscount Andrew looked at the vial in confusion. "This is...?"
"A potion brewed by the druids on my territory. It will restore your strength and mend your internal organs along the way." Gao Yang pulled the stopper from the bottle and brought it to the lips of a man too weak even to hold the vial. "Every organ in your body is on the verge of withering. Food at this point would only finish you off—you need this potion first to pull you back from the brink."
Pi Yun might spend much of his time peddling utterly useless "luck salves" across the territory, but the functional elixirs he brewed were genuinely effective. Not long after Viscount Andrew drank the stamina potion, color visibly returned to his face.
Only then did Gao Yang speak up and ask: "Do you have any information about the Shadowmoon cultists that you can give me? How did a man in your position come to be targeted by an organization like the Order of All Things Ending?"
Viscount Andrew strained the muscles of his face, as though trying to force out a bitter smile, but in the end he could not manage it. He could only heave a long sigh. "Alas... it is my own fault. I dug up something I should never have dug up."
"Dug up something you should never have dug up?" Gao Yang's brow furrowed. "What do you mean?"
"I dug up a fragment of the Eternal Stone Tablet..."
