Chapter 324 — The Wanted Notice

Years of Heartflutter Page 2 of 2

"Brother Yang, I hear you've already found the suspect in the Sui Yuejin case?" Qin An said. "We were just going over the details of the case on our side, and I never expected you'd have a result already. Truly, heroes come from the young!"

"Brother Qin, I came by this recording purely by chance." Yang Mo seemed a little embarrassed. "One of my... subordinates, he went back to the Sui Group's Celestial Tower later on, and in the security office cabinet he found a data backup machine, with the hard drive inside still intact—the suspect must have overlooked it.

"Oh? This subordinate of yours... why didn't he tell you about it before?" Captain Zhang asked, a little puzzled. If

the recording had been in hand all along, all that misunderstanding the other day would never have happened.

"He did mention it at the time, but I didn't pay it much mind. It wasn't until yesterday when you came looking for me that I went back and asked him for the recording." Yang Mo explained with a touch of shame. "I've been rather busy lately, dealing with other matters, and let this slip."

Qin An saw nothing strange in that. He had subordinates of his own too, gathering intelligence every day and reporting back to him; he likewise picked out only the important items to look into. It was impossible to attend to everything himself—that would be more than anyone could bear.

"Still, this subordinate of yours, actually coming all the way out to Jing Mountain... that is a little odd." Qin An

had no intention of accusing Yang Ce of crossing a line, for he said these words with a smile on his face.

"Brother Qin, forgive me—

he meant nothing else by coming here." He offered this by way of explanation.

"Haha, I'm not blaming you, just a bit curious, that's all." Qin An waved his hand with a laugh. "But this subordinate of yours is loyal enough." The Bureau of Mysterious Investigations had only one person in charge at each posting, but that person was free to recruit some help of his own, and Xia Donghai could allocate funds to cover the expenses. Qin An assumed this was how Yang Shuo did things; little did he know that Yang Ce was a commander without an army—the so-called subordinates were nothing but the people under his girlfriend Wang Yanqiu's... father. "How about we watch the recording?" Captain Zhang, unable to contain his impatience any longer, suggested

once Yang Ce and Qin An had finished exchanging pleasantries.

"All right. Brother Qin, Captain Zhang and I were just talking—the suspect's face appears clearly in this recording; on the strength of it, we can issue a wanted notice." Yang Yanzhou said.

Zhang Dahai had someone prepare a conference room and set up the big screen, then went in with Yang Mo and Qin An and began playing the DVD Yang Ce had brought.

Yang Ce had not cut out those earlier scenes of Yang Juehuan. No one would suspect him anymore, so cutting them would only have looked petty.

After watching the recording, Zhang Dahai had someone prepare photographs of the suspect. There were clear ones in the footage; all they had to do was extract a few frames. Before long, crisp printed wanted notices appeared on every street and alley of Jing Mountain, and the online notices went out to the police departments of neighboring cities, asking them to help post the notices.

Qin An busied himself alongside Zhang Dahai, while Yang Cenbin, having decided on the spur of the moment to come to Jing Mountain with little preparation, now had to hurry back. So he arranged with Qin An that once this business was settled, he would come to Songjiang to find Yang Puqi and the others for a get-together—perhaps it would not be long before he came to Songjiang.

After taking leave of Qin An and Zhang Dahai, Yang Ce made ready to hurry back to Songjiang. He had only taught one class today; if he headed back now, he might still catch the last one.

On the way back to Songjiang, Yang Ce did not speed. He was not reckless; though the pass on the car was from Donghai and would work anywhere in the province, Yang Shuo did not lean on that kind of privilege.

The Jing Mountain police were remarkably efficient; tens of thousands of wanted notices were already posted throughout the residential districts and the streets and alleys, and the matter of Sui Yuejin's assassination had finally taken shape.

Of them all, though, the most downcast was surely Old Li. All day yesterday he had been waiting for the reward money to be delivered to his door. He had waited all morning today as well and seen no one come with the money. Thinking he had been played for a fool, he called Zhang Dahai, only to be told that the case had hidden complications—Yang Ce was not a suspect.

Old Li grew all the more certain that he had been tricked, and he was rather angry: Officer Zhang had taken the videotape and would not give him his reward. He was grumbling about it at home when Old Wang came looking for him, a wanted notice in hand.

"Old Li, stop waiting—the reward money's surely gone for good." Old Wang came through the door with a

sigh.

"Oh? What do you mean? They really mean to welsh on the deal?" Old Li was indignant. "They promised back then, and now they won't make good on it—how can they do that? I'll go to the newspapers and expose them!"

"Don't bother." Old Wang waved his hand and handed Old Li a sheet of paper. "See for yourself what this is."

"A wanted notice?" Old Li took the paper Old Wang handed him, and his brows knitted at once. "The man who killed Sui Yuejin—that's not the man in the recording we saw at all?"

"Now you know why you didn't get the reward, don't you?" Old Wang said. "And don't complain—the

thing you handed in was completely useless. The man in that recording isn't the killer!"

This time Old Li was utterly silent. He understood now why he had not received the reward—whoever heard of pies falling from the sky?

Another man who had gotten hold of a sheet of paper was Huang Shu. Nervously he handed what he held to the boss behind the scenes. "Boss, this is bad—a wanted notice for you has actually been issued!"

"What do you mean, a wanted notice for me?" The boss behind the scenes had been chatting with Dr. Ban Lin online; seeing Huang Jin come blundering in, his brows drew together at once. "What are you in such a panic about?"

"Boss, the Jing Mountain police have issued a wanted notice for you!" Huang Shu put what he held into the boss's hand.

The boss minimized the chat window; he did not want Huang Shu knowing his business. He took the wanted notice Huang Shu handed him and glanced at it, and at once his expression turned grim. "What on earth is going on here? How could they possibly know it was me? Something must have gone wrong with that videotape—"

No wonder the boss behind the scenes reacted so strongly! He was supposed to be a hidden mastermind, a figure lurking in the shadows, not someone exposed before the public eye. For his face to suddenly appear on a wanted notice—how could he not be shaken?

"The videotape can't be the problem. But these photos—they look like they were taken inside the Sui Group's Celestial

Tower?" Huang Shu studied the background of the photograph carefully, then spoke.

"
