Chapter 107 — If You Love Her, Trust Her

Years of Heartflutter Page 4 of 4

"Sister, you can't just stand by and watch me die. Look at me and Uncle Huang—we're in such a sorry state, without even a place to shelter. Could you let us stay at your place for a while?" Wang Lin, heedless of face now, regardless of the girl's attitude, hastily begged in a low, submissive voice. This was his only straw to clutch at. "Sister, I know Auntie doesn't really live in Songjiang much, and that house just sits empty. Why not let us stay there a while?"

"So now Auntie knows to call my mother 'Auntie'? Where was that before? Didn't you used to call her by her name directly?" The girl gave a cold snort.

"That, Sister—look, I'm your brother, after all. The same blood runs in our veins. You can't just watch your brother die." Wang Lin had no desire to spend the New Year in this wretched place.

"When did you ever treat me as your sister?" the girl said with contempt. "You and I are more strangers than strangers."

"How can you say that? Haven't things between us already eased?" Wang Lin said shamelessly.

"Eased? Ha, that's rich. You had your motives even then, didn't you? If it weren't for me and—never mind, let's not talk about it." The girl shook her head. "I came this time to bring you some food and some electric heaters. They're outside. Move them in yourself. I've done all that could be asked of me. From now on, you and I have nothing to do with each other."

"Sister, I—" Wang Lin wanted to say more, but the girl had already turned to leave.

"Fine. Even if you won't help me, are you going to pretend you never saw what happened to Father—pretend you don't know?" Wang Lin shouted.

"Father? Ha. Did he ever treat me as his daughter?" The girl's body trembled, and then she spoke.

"No matter what you say, blood is thicker than water. You are Wang Pu's daughter, and you are my sister. Now that Father has been ruined by Yang Ce like that, are you just going to stand by and do nothing?" Wang Lin spoke with passion. "They say that no matter how wrong your parents may be, they are still your parents. They gave you life—isn't that enough? As a son, if I do not avenge my father, I will not rest easy even in death."

The girl stopped. She stood quietly, and no one knew what she was thinking. Wang Lin said nothing either, standing silently to one side, waiting for her decision. He knew his words had had their effect.

Yes—this sister of his might feel no fondness for him, but what he was playing now was the family card, the hatred card. The hatred of a murdered father.

After a long while, the girl let out a long breath. Was she not struggling within herself as well? Even if she felt no fondness for this brother, or for that father in name only, her mother had loved this man without regret, from first to last.

Now that this father in name had come to grief, how heartbroken her mother must be. For her mother's sake, this vengeance had to be taken.

The girl had grown up in a single-parent household, and her heart had long been a little warped. Once she hated someone, she would stop at nothing to take her revenge.

"What do you want me to do?" the girl said flatly.

"Get close to Yang Ce. Win his favor. Pass word to me. That's enough. Leave the rest to me." Wang Lin knew the girl had finally made her choice, and he was overjoyed.

"Is that all?" the girl asked.

"That's all," Wang Lin said with a nod. Of course it was not all. Once the girl got close to Yang Ce, she might play some unexpected role; at the critical moment, she would be a pawn of the utmost importance. But these words Wang Lin did not say aloud.

"I'll think about it." The girl gave no definite answer. She tossed out that one sentence and strode out of the warehouse.

After the girl left, Wang Lin and Huang Shu moved the things she had brought into the warehouse. It seemed she had prepared quite thoroughly—electric heaters, electric blankets, everything one could need, along with a great pile of instant food.

It was winter now, so there was no fear of anything spoiling as it sat. Only Wang Lin felt a touch of regret that they had not been able to go to the girl's home.

"What's going on? Still no word from Wu Ming?" The Black Widow's tone was flat, but a faint frown creased her brow.

"Boss, it looks like Wu Ming may have been taken," Black Rat said after a moment's hesitation.

"Taken? Has Bao Lin got some expert at his side? Wu Ming's skills surpass even yours—how could he be captured?" the Black Widow asked, knitting her brows. "Is this information reliable?"

"It's only a guess," Black Rat said. "But that Yang Ce seems to have some connection to Bao Lin. I fear he may be the one who acted."

The last time, Black Rat and Feng Dao had been wounded by Yang Ce. Once they returned to headquarters, there was plainly no hiding it any longer, so they had no choice but to confess their deeds to the Black Widow—only to have her tell them to leave that Yang Ce alone from then on.

This struck both Black Rat and Feng Dao as strange. Could their boss know this Yang Yongjin? Yet they knew the Black Widow's ways: her word was law, and she never went back on it. They did not dare seek out Yang Ce again.

So when the matter just now had touched on Yang Ce, Black Rat had brought it up with the utmost caution.

To be continued.
