Chapter 132 — The Fierce Spirit

Jin Pingyue suddenly felt she could hear her own heartbeat.

She steadied herself and looked carefully around once more, especially into the Ancient Cave of Demon Suppression. It was pitch-black within, fathomless, like a monstrous demon lurking in the dark, its ferocious maw open, roaring without end.

Jin Pingyue's delicate brows knit slightly; instinctively she felt the evil aura surging to the heavens from that darkness, making her blood churn and leaving her truly wretched. Yet at this moment her curiosity far outweighed all else. That stone statue of a woman was, in her heart, a truly mysterious presence, and come what may, she had to look at it closely.

The next instant, her gaze fell upon the stone statue.

She must once have been a beautiful woman! Jin Pingyue softly said this in her heart.

Gentle brows lay faintly across her eyes; a melon-seed face, its lines grown a shade too hard. Her lips were pressed together, her eyes resolute, as though after a thousand trials and ten thousand tribulations she had at last made up her mind. Yet her face, her expression, was strangely tender—a touch of sorrow, a touch of bitter ache.

Could the wind and frost of ten thousand years wear away a beauty that once was?

You stand alone through the years—and for whose sake?

Jin Pingyue gazed in silence and slowly reached out to touch the stone woman, never noticing that behind her, from the very moment her hand met the statue, white vapor suddenly rose, gathering little by little, gradually taking human form, and the vicious spirit appeared.

What lay beneath her hand had been rough stone, scarred by countless years of baleful wind, bleak snow, rain and weathering; and now, beneath Jin Pingyue's fair hand, those scars seemed to reveal themselves one by one, passing from the stone into her palm, into her heart.

What sort of woman had this woman been?

Jin Pingyue seemed to have gone entranced, so deeply was she drawn to that stone statue of a woman.

Behind her, the vicious spirit had fully manifested, fury on its face. It raised its gigantic sword high, and suddenly gave a great shout, and brought it savagely down!
