Chapter 4562 — Spirit Bird Upgrade

The Blossom Guardian · Page 2 of 3

Techniques such as the Raging Fire Thousand-Blast Fist, the Raging Fire Eight-Trigram Palm, and the Raging Fire Thousand Legs, along with the top-grade body arts and the ultra-limit body arts—all of these were things Wei Zhao needed to study carefully. The latter two in particular he would have to find a way to combine with his other martial techniques, creating enhanced versions just like the Super Butterfly Microstep and the Ultra-Limit Butterfly Microstep. Those would be his powerful means against enemies in the days to come.

Two more days passed in the blink of an eye. Just as Wei Zhao was deep in his research, the spirit bird's excited cry suddenly sounded beside him, and it leaped up out of the Star-Ink Milk. The feeling it gave off from head to tail was utterly different from before, and there was now a distinct hint of the ethereal and insubstantial about it. This was a sign that appeared only once a flying spirit beast had reached a certain level.

"You've already reached Nascent Soul?!" Wei Zhao was struck dumb, and could not help but grimace speechlessly. He had honestly thought his own advancement was fast enough. But compared with this spirit bird, he was practically a snail crawling along. How the hell could this broken bird level up so fast?

"Chirp chirp chirp chirp!" The spirit bird nodded repeatedly at Wei Zhao, its newly gained Nascent Soul aura on full display.

"Heh heh, you needn't be so surprised, kid. Being able to come to this place is not only your fortuitous chance, but just as much a tremendous one for it. That it should have come this far is only to be expected," Old Ghost interjected with a laugh.

"You call this 'to be expected'? Senior, you're not about to tell me all you spirit beasts level up like this, are you?" Wei Zhao said, speechless. If all spirit beasts advanced at such a horrifying rate, the spirit beast race would have been invincible long ago.

"That's not it. There are reasons this spirit bird has advanced so quickly. After all, the spiritual qi in this place is dense to a degree rarely seen in the world. True, there is the oppressive might of the Five Elements Killing Qi, but most of that is aimed at you; the share that falls on this creature is negligible. It only picks up the leftover spiritual qi that carries no attack and absorbs it, and that is enough for it to shoot right up," Old Ghost explained.

"Is it really that simple?" Wei Zhao raised an eyebrow, still finding it hard to believe. After all, it was simply too outrageous.

"How complicated did you think it was? Don't forget all this Star-Ink Milk and the Golden Core Fruit of Nascent Condensation you gave it. Add to that the fact that this spirit bird's aptitude is nothing special, and its advancing to the Nascent Soul stage is no surprise at all," Old Ghost said, wholly unconcerned.

"Its aptitude is nothing special, and that's no surprise?" Wei Zhao was stunned to hear it. From the sound of it, poor aptitude was precisely what made for rapid advancement. What kind of bizarre logic was that?

"Exactly. If it were some other spirit beast here—especially one with somewhat better aptitude—even with such a uniquely favorable environment, it might not rise more than a level or two. Because we spirit beasts are not like you humans: for you human cultivators, the better the aptitude, the faster the advancement, whereas for us spirit beasts it is just the opposite. The higher a spirit beast race's innate talent, the more resources each level requires, and so the slower it naturally advances. This spirit bird's racial talent can only be considered below average, so naturally it advances much faster," Old Ghost explained with a smile.

"So that's how it is. First time I've ever heard it," Wei Zhao said, only now enlightened. Spirit beasts with better aptitude might advance more slowly, but their strength was beyond question—on that point they were indeed utterly unlike human cultivators.
