Chapter 4547 — The Five-Venom Flood Dragon

"Flood dragons fall within my dragon clan's jurisdiction, and if one truly existed here, it would surely be no weakling. When I left Cloud Terrace Isle back then, I was in fact hoping to cultivate a deputy elder of the dragon clan to handle affairs here on my behalf—only in the end I never found anyone qualified. By every reckoning, then, I had to come and make a search. But several whole years of it yielded nothing at all." Ghost Thing paused, then smiled bitterly. "Now it seems plain enough: the flood dragon they saw was nothing but these materialized five-element killing auras, which by chance had drifted up over the marsh."
"That must be it." Wei Zhao nodded. From the moment he had entered the Five-Venom Marsh to now, he had never once seen a living creature. This was simply a natural death zone—if a Five-Venom Flood Dragon had suddenly cropped up, that would have been the strange thing.
He paused, then asked with some hesitation, "Senior, so what do I do next...?"
This place was a natural treasure trove, a spot where the spiritual energy was even richer than in the jade pendant's space—somewhere he might never have the chance to set foot again in this life. So Wei Zhao had no intention of simply going back up. Of course, he had no way up at present either.
After all, he could not fly the way the old Western Hills Sect did—and even if he could get back into the Five-Venom Marsh above, fighting his way straight up through the immense resistance of the marsh mud would be more than he could manage. Besides, he could hardly leave Huang Xiaotao's spirit bird here, the creature that was her very lifeline.
Unless the spirit bird held perfectly still the way it had on the way down, Wei Zhao could just barely shield it whole with his true qi—but if the bird did not move, how was he to get up? And the moment it started thrashing, with Wei Zhao's present strength, mishaps came all too easily. If anything truly went wrong along the way, the regret would be beyond remedy.
And if he rashly went up now, the old Western Hills Sect might well still be camped at the marsh's edge, unwilling to give up. Should the man discover that Wei Zhao could go deep into the Five-Venom Marsh and live, he would undoubtedly hound him to the death and roost right there—and Wei Zhao would never take a single step out of the Five-Venom Marsh again in this life.
But if he did not go up, then he could only stay in this unfamiliar underground space before him. The spiritual energy here was uncommonly rich, true enough—but who could say what perils lurked in a place like this?
Wei Zhao did not believe any Five-Venom Flood Dragon existed either, yet his years of experience had taught him another truth: risk is always in direct proportion to reward. A top-grade treasure ground, so singularly endowed by heaven—could it really be this safe and harmless? The odds of that were probably lower than those of a Five-Venom Flood Dragon existing...
Had this been before, Wei Zhao would certainly have found some way to explore this vast, boundless underground space thoroughly. After all, the chance was rare, and there might well be some unexpected delight in store. But having one after another encountered top-tier beings like the old Western Hills Sect and the spirit beast clans, Wei Zhao's little store of confidence had long since been shaken.
As a peak mid Golden Core expert, Wei Zhao was now at least a hundred times stronger than when he had first come to Cloud Terrace Isle. Yet he did not feel strong in the least. With no leads whatsoever, to dare explore rashly on the strength of such power would be to court death in earnest.
The space below was far larger than the Five-Venom Marsh above. Who knew whether he could find his way back after wandering far, or whether he could still get up when the time came—or whether, once up, he might meet some other situation that caught him utterly off guard. This place was full of too many uncertainties.
