Chapter 4357 — A Conspiracy

Still, the way things had turned out was not so bad, all things considered. Huang Xiaotao had been taken under the wing of the Sea Goddess of the Eastern Sea and become her personal disciple, the envy of everyone, and so long as she was with Wang Xinyan, at least she would not be in danger.
Even as Wei Zhao pondered how to slip past the eyes and ears of others and meet the two girls without raising suspicion, over at the Hong Clan Trading Company, Wei Zhaotong and Cheng Qitian had once again begun to scheme.
"Manager Wei, Morning Star Academy has arrived, and the moment you spoke of has come. Surely now you can tell me the details of your plan? That brat Ling Yi has been hiding out in the Skysupport Escort Agency, living the easy life for days on end," Cheng Qitian said, unable to contain his impatience.
The last time he and Wei Zhaotong had hit it off, Cheng Qitian had laid it on thick, pinning the entire blame for the exposure of the escort-robbery scheme on Ling Yi's head.
Had Ling Yi not meddled, the plan to rob the escort would have been flawless, and Qi Wenmo would never have found them out; as things stood, perhaps they ought even to thank Wei Zhaotong for his magnanimity in accepting compensation and not pressing the Skysupport Escort Agency for further accountability.
And so Wei Zhaotong naturally came to hate Wei Zhao as well, for the facts spoke for themselves: without Wei Zhao, the pirate chief would never have been captured, and Qi Wenmo would never have learned the truth behind the scenes.
To set Wei Zhaotong against Ling Yi—this was what Cheng Qitian called killing with a borrowed knife. He knew that Ling Yi enjoyed the full protection of the Skysupport Escort Agency, and that he alone could do nothing about it; only by borrowing Wei Zhaotong's power would he have any chance to wipe away his former shame.
Yet how could a man as crafty and calculating as Wei Zhaotong be used by a fool like Cheng Qitian? It would more likely be the other way around. Besides, given his status and position, and all his misgivings, even if he resolved to deal with Wei Zhao, he would never do so with his own hands.
Cheng Qitian's little calculations were perfectly clear to Wei Zhaotong, but he did not call them out. For one thing, he genuinely hated Ling Yi for ruining his good plans and wished to be rid of him; for another, the opportunity let him draw closer to the Poison Eye Mercenary Corps—an excellent partner for any shady dealings he might wish to undertake in the future.
"Patience, Young Master Cheng. Morning Star Academy has indeed arrived, but this old man has yet to see my distant cousin. He is the key figure in dealing with this Ling Yi," Wei Zhaotong said, unruffled.
"Distant cousin?" Cheng Qitian was taken aback, then asked, "Manager Wei, is your distant cousin someone from Morning Star Academy?"
"Indeed. He is no ordinary disciple at Morning Star Academy. With him stepping in and saying a few words, that Ling Yi will beg for death and find no release!" Wei Zhaotong sneered.
"So formidable? Manager Wei, what exactly does your cousin do at Morning Star Academy?" Cheng Qitian's curiosity only deepened.
"Procurement steward," Wei Zhaotong said mildly, pouring tea for Cheng Qitian with his own hand.
"Pfft!" Cheng Qitian, who had just taken a sip, sprayed it out on the spot and grimaced. "I thought he was some great personage—just a fellow who does the purchasing. What kind of great personage is that?"
"There is much you do not know, Young Master Cheng. Do not be fooled by the title of procurement steward; the man is in charge of all external procurement for the entire Morning Star Academy. The authority in his hands is beyond what ordinary folk can imagine," Wei Zhaotong said with a profoundly knowing air.
"Even so, what does a purchasing man have to do with dealing with Ling Yi?" Cheng Qitian was still at a loss.
