Chapter 4151 — Wei Shenjin's Rage

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

What infuriated Wei Shenjin even more, and stunned him besides, was that these two women had once kept male concubines? Weren't they both supposed to be virgins? And he had witnessed their wedding night with his own eyes—so how could there have been male concubines?

For any man in full possession of his faculties, there is no greater outrage than his woman's infidelity. Any hat a man may wear—but never a green one.

Learning the truth so abruptly from the two women's own mouths struck Wei Shenjin like a bolt from a clear sky. He gave no thought at all to his frail, unhealed body; his first impulse was to seize his sword and kill.

Yet the moment he reached the door, hearing the two women's footsteps and their shameless, wanton laughter drawing nearer and nearer, feeling the cold touch of the snow sword in his hand, the furious, humiliated Wei Shenjin suddenly came partway back to his senses.

He was a cripple now, utterly without strength—no longer a core disciple whose word carried weight. Never mind that he could not beat Situ Qian in a fight; the mere fact that Situ Qian was an elder's granddaughter was enough to press him down until he dared not stir.

If he could, he would have charged out regardless of everything and hacked those two vile women to death. But it was all a fool's dream. He had to force himself to calm down and, for the time being, hold his hand.

The few sentences he had just overheard were enough to show him the truth, but they hardly amounted to ironclad proof. In his present straits, if he meant to purge his own household, he must first have rock-solid evidence—at the very least, something that would leave that slut Situ Qian with no room to argue.

Wei Shenjin choked down his towering rage and at once turned back to the bed, pretending to sleep. Only when Situ Qian and Xiao Qiuhua pushed the door open, reeking of wine, did he feign having just woken.

"Junior Sister, you're back! You must be exhausted from cultivating all day. Here, sit down and rest a while. Your senior brother will fetch you hot water for a bath." Wei Shenjin forced down his disgust and squeezed a full smile onto his face.

"Hm?" Situ Qian exchanged a startled glance with Xiao Qiuhua. Fetching water was servants' work; even when bathing himself, Wei Shenjin had never drawn his own water—not even after his injury reduced him to a cripple had that ever changed. Today was a first in all their time together.

"All right, then. Not too hot—I like it warm." Situ Qian nodded at once. She assumed Wei Shenjin had finally faced reality, his mindset shifting from that of a lofty core disciple of the sect to that of the good-for-nothing cripple he now was.

A cripple with no strength and no standing—what else could he do but wait on others?

Watching Wei Shenjin bustle about fetching her water, Situ Qian raised an eyebrow. These past few days, in league with Senior Brother Ma, she had come to see this crippled husband of hers as nothing but a downright burden—useless and in the way. She had even begun to consider whether she need not arrange a little accident and simply do away with Wei Shenjin.

The sect had long since given up on him anyway. Find some pretext about his injuries flaring up again, and doubtless no one would bother to look into it closely. Then she could throw off all restraint and consort with Senior Brother Ma as she pleased.

But now, seeing how sensible Wei Shenjin had become, the murderous intent in Situ Qian's heart faded somewhat. If the creature could face reality and keep a proper attitude, there was no reason she couldn't let him stay. Use him as a servant—that would be no great problem.

A short while later, Wei Shenjin had the water ready, deliberately adjusting the temperature to Situ Qian's liking. Not only that, he humbled himself and waited on her through her bath from beginning to end—kneading her shoulders, scrubbing her back, laboring at every turn—until Situ Qian was beside herself with delight.
