After taking his leave, Kang Jingming went to attend to the affairs of the Xuan Dan Sect trial. But the moment he saw Wei Zhao's name added to the list of those who had passed, a surge of fury swept over him.
He had never imagined that Wei Zhao would emerge alive. He had thought Wei Zhao had already perished in the Five Fiends Desolate Land. Yet, twenty days after the trial began, Wei Zhao had returned safely to the Xuan Dan Sect's inn, obtained the spirit medicine required for the trial, and reported his results through the innkeeper, Manager Sun.
Manager Sun himself had no authority to decide the matter. Although Wei Zhao and Zhang Naipao had been the last to complete the trial and had already exceeded the stipulated time limit, he had no power to determine whether they were qualified to pass. He could only report the matter to Tian Canbian.
Tian Chan, naturally, had no intention of obstructing them. Quite apart from her private relationship with Wei Zhao, Zhang Naipao was also someone Elder Ancestor Xuanchen valued. She had no reason to stand in their way, so she simply added both names to the list.

"Little Ming pays his respects to the Young Sect Master!" Although Kang Jingming now had Elder Ancestor Xuanchen as his master, he knew that he would still have to make his way within the Xuan Dan Sect. If he failed to flatter Tian Canbian properly and ended up being given trouble from time to time, there would be nothing he could do about it. And if Elder Ancestor Xuanchen decided that he lacked ability, he would be finished.
"Oh, it's Little Ming. What is it?" Tian Chan glanced at Kang Jingming and asked in an indifferent tone. She was utterly different from the Tian Chan who had been in the Five Fiends Desolate Land. Once she returned to the Xuan Dan Sect, she was no longer Tian Chan, but the cold and ruthless Tian Canbian.
"Young Sect Master, I came regarding the list of recipients of the Xuan Dan Sect trial's rewards. Wei Zhao did not return until after the trial had ended, exceeding the maximum twenty-day limit. Should we not revoke his qualification to pass the trial?" Kang Jingming suggested. Now that Wei Zhao had survived, he certainly was not going to make things easy for him.
"Oh, I was the one who made that decision. So long as a trial-taker obtained the spirit medicine required by the trial, they would be considered to have passed. The time limit is irrelevant." Tian Chan spoke indifferently. "Little Ming, is there anything else?"
"This..." Kang Jingming was stunned. He had not expected Tian Chan to reject his proposal so directly. Though unwilling to give up, he did not dare argue with her and could only persuade her instead. "Young Sect Master, Wei Zhao is an enemy of our Xuan Dan Sect. My master, Elder Ancestor Xuanchen, detests him deeply. If we set a few obstacles in his path and teach him a lesson, would that not also help vent my master's anger..."
To win Tian Chan's attention, Kang Jingming had deliberately invoked Elder Ancestor Xuanchen's name. Perhaps then she would reconsider the matter.
