"Fine!" Seeing that Zhong Yongliang was set on this, Gao Xiaofu could only nod in agreement. He wanted to get away from this eerie graveyard as fast as possible; Zhong Yongliang had vanished and come back, but Gao Xiaofu still did not want to linger there a moment longer.
The two of them hurried back to the side courtyard where they lodged. Gao Xiaofu went to fetch Zhang Naipao, while Zhong Yongliang sat on the bed, quietly pondering the course of his life.
He had already accepted the fact that he had been half-possessed, and to his mind, this was a good thing. Not only had his own consciousness not vanished, but his body now held the memories of a powerful primordial spirit—he was not far from the heights of a Great Adept.
Thinking back on the crude, shallow mental techniques and oral formulas he had practiced before, Zhong Yongliang grew annoyed. That ungrateful little whelp Chunyang Tianzun, betraying his own master and ancestors, had actually made him cultivate such garbage! Good thing he had not yet stepped into the Yellow Rank and formally become a cultivator—otherwise switching to another mental technique and oral formula would have been a real pain.
"Alas!" When Zhong Yongliang examined his own physical constitution through the eyes of Patriarch Kuanglong, he could not help but shake his head vigorously. This body of his was simply too poor—as poor as poor could be—and it was even missing a kidney!
Still, missing a kidney would not greatly affect the mental techniques and oral formulas Patriarch Kuanglong had cultivated in life. It was just that this physique was outrageously poor, and he had already missed the best age for cultivation. He would have to rely on rare treasures of heaven and earth to alter and strengthen his constitution.
Zhang Naipao was utterly loyal to Zhong Yongliang. Though it was the middle of the night, the moment Gao Xiaofu called him, he hurried to Zhong Yongliang's side courtyard.
"Brother Liang, you wanted to see me?" Zhang Naipao asked at once.
"Oh, Naipao, you're here?" Zhong Yongliang nodded with satisfaction. This little brother of his was truly loyal.
"Yes, Brother Liang. What urgent matter is there at this late hour?" Zhang Naipao asked, a little puzzled.
"Take me to see that little brat Chunyang," Zhong Yongliang said, rising to his feet and addressing Zhang Naipao.
"What?" Zhang Naipao started, his face going pale. He rushed forward and clapped a hand over Zhong Yongliang's mouth, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead in fright. "Brother Liang, what are you saying? You mustn't talk nonsense! How can you casually speak the Revered Master's name?"
"Paozi, let me ask you something. If your master and I came into conflict, would you stand on my side, or on your master's side?" Zhong Yongliang deliberately put on a cold expression and asked with his hands clasped behind his back.
"I... Brother Liang, my life belongs to you. Without you, there would be no me today... Of course I would stand on your side!" Zhang Naipao said hastily.
"Good. In that case, take me to find that brat Chunyang," Zhong Yongliang said with a wave of his hand.
"This... all right then!" Zhang Naipao had no choice but to nod. He thought to himself, What madness has gotten into Brother Liang, going to see the Revered Master? And from his tone, he seems deeply displeased with the Revered Master. If a conflict really does break out, what then? Even if I joined in, I would be no match for the Revered Master!
Could it be that Brother Liang has built up resentment because the Revered Master has long abandoned him in the rear-mountain side courtyard, paying him no heed? But I have been working to smooth things over for him all along. Brother Liang should be a very patient man; he has endured so much for so long—he even endured Wei Zhao. Can he not endure the Revered Master too?
"Paozi, you needn't worry. Your Brother Liang knows what he's doing!" Zhong Yongliang said smugly.
