Chapter 2757 — He Is Your Grandfather?

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

When she was little, her parents had only told her that the jade pendant was of great sentimental value and that she must wear it always, so Wang Xinyan in fact had no idea what the pendant was actually for.

"That jade pendant was left behind by that master of old. He said that if you wore it, you would be safe from then on," Wang Xuben said. "That's why I've always had you keep it on you. You were still small then, so I never explained, and later I forgot, and told you only about the elixir..."

"This pendant has been on me the whole time. It couldn't have been swapped..." Wang Xinyan shook her head. The only time the pendant had ever been in danger was on the way to the school outing, when robbers had set their sights on her; but Kang Jinglong's arrival had drawn their attention away, and it had not been taken. After that it had stayed on her, never once removed.

Wang Xuben carefully picked up Wang Xinyan's pendant and examined it. After a long while he shook his head and said, "The pendant is the same pendant as before, but the color really has changed! Could this pendant be an omen of something too?"

"What? Then doesn't that mean our Xinyan..." Xiao Qinlin turned pale with terror.

"Uncle Wang, Aunt Xiao, don't jump to conclusions just yet. The pendant changing color doesn't necessarily mean anything—there may be other reasons!" Wei Zhao did not think Wang Xinyan's pendant was an omen of anything. Instead, a possibility had occurred to him—one that seemed impossible but was in fact quite likely... though he could only mention this possibility to Wang Xinyan in private!

"Other reasons..." Wang Xuben shook his head helplessly. "Xiaoyi, you don't need to comfort us. The truth is, your aunt Xiao and I made our peace eighteen years ago with the prospect of losing Xinyan... It's just that this day seems to have come a little late, making us feel that happiness is far too brief..."

Xiao Qinlin said nothing, but her eyes were full of grief... She had never imagined that Wang Xinyan's frail, sickly condition would come back.

"Uncle Wang, don't talk like that. I'll do everything I can to find a way to cure Xinyan," Wei Zhao said. "Rest assured, I will give you back a healthy Xinyan!"

Wei Zhao was consumed with guilt over Wang Xinyan's situation. If he had not been greedy for power and eager to cultivate quickly, how could Wang Xinyan have run into trouble? One could say that Wang Xinyan had been drained to death by his absorption of her fragrance. So no matter how hard or difficult it was, Wei Zhao was determined to find a way to solve Wang Xinyan's problem.

Xiaoxiao's condition had already pushed Wei Zhao to his utmost, but for Wang Xinyan's sake he would strive even harder than he had for Xiaoxiao! Because Wang Xinyan's problem had arisen entirely because of him.

"I hope so..." In that instant Wang Xuben seemed to age greatly, and his smile was thick with bitterness. "Xiaoyi, then I'll have to trouble you! Your aunt and I will get things in order and sell the company. I plan to take her back to the place where we met that master all those years ago, to see whether we can meet him again. Didn't he say that after eighteen years we would meet again?"

Xiao Qinlin nodded too, and looked at Wang Xinyan, her eyes shimmering with deep reluctance to let go. "Xinyan, from now on, just be with Wei Zhao. Do whatever you want to do—as long as you're happy, that's all that matters. Don't worry about anything else..."

"Mom... what are you saying..." Hearing Xiao Qinlin's words, Wang Xinyan grew shy at once, her cheeks flushing. "It's not as if I'm really going to die. Wei Zhao will definitely find a way, won't you, Wei Zhao?"

As she spoke, Wang Xinyan winked at Wei Zhao.
